We cannae dae it, Captain Darling | SayYes2Scotland | Scoop.it

Forgive the mangled Star Trek/Blackadder reference, there.

We’ve been having a dig around in the just-released full data tables from today’s Panelbase poll, and found something we thought was particularly interesting, and which we don’t think anyone’s picked up on, because it’s a bit tricky to get your head round. Walk with us while we simplify it.

Jim Arnott's insight:

For many people, an important question will be: "Can Scotland afford Independence?" This should apply to myself just as much as to anyone else. With this in mind, I set about establishing the facts as best I could.

You can see my analysis here: www.SayYes2Scotland.com

I used a combination of World Bank and Scottish Government data to reach my conclusion that an independent Scotland would be wealthier than a Scotland remaining in the Union.

A year to go: Yes a point ahead | Scottish National Party | SayYes2Scotland | Scoop.it

The most recently sampled independence referendum opinion poll puts support for Yes a point ahead of No - at 44 per cent to 43 per cent, with Don't Know at 13 per cent - as we enter the month of a year to go until next September's vote.

Jim Arnott's insight:

I just hope "Project Fear" continues right up to the Referendum in September 2014. My experience talking to people is that they are getting right skunnered with all the negativity, scaremongering and downright lies. This together with the positive vision of the Yes campaign is opening Scots eyes to the possibilities of running our own affairs.

Thank you Ruth for an excellent Guest Editorial.

I asked my wife to read it this morning and she found the balance in the article to be what is missing in the MSM.

We are looking forward to any contributions you will be making to the Referendum debate in the coming months.

Yet another Union dividend

Yet another Union dividend | SayYes2Scotland | Scoop.it

An alert reader (what would we do without them?) sent us this interesting graph today:

It comes from a page on the website of a heating-oil supplier, and had both our reader and ourselves scratching our heads trying to explain it. Scotland is an oil-producing nation, and almost all of the UK’s oil comes ashore and is refined in Scotland. It has less distance to travel to get to customers in Scotland than anywhere else.

Jim Arnott's insight:

This is the type of story that should/could/maybe will drive more and more Scots to vote Yes in the 2014 Referendum on independence for Scotland.

Scottish Independence and The Second Enlightenment

Scottish Independence and The Second Enlightenment | SayYes2Scotland | Scoop.it

On the 18th of September, 2014, we in Scotland will be given the historical chance to vote for, and reclaim, our Independence.

Independent from the other two nations in ‘Great’ Britain – England and Wales – that along with Northern Ireland, make up the constituent parts of the ‘United’ Kingdom, ruled by and from London. Scotland is a 1000-year-old Nation, currently residing within a ‘failing U.K. state’. Next year, we have the first real opportunity to vote in a Referendum to become a true Nation-State again and take our place as a wholly free democracy – one of the oldest Nations in the world, yet renewing and reasserting itself as a freer, more democratic and prosperous country.

Scotland and England are growing apart. A no vote won't stop that | SayYes2Scotland | Scoop.it

They think it's all over. The leaders of the unionist Better Together campaign are already congratulating themselves on victory in next year's referendum. Indeed, the US statistician and election forecaster, Nate Silver, told the Edinburgh book festival last week that the yes campaign had "virtually no chance" of winning. But unionist triumphalism may be premature.
