unspy's insight:

I am sure that there have been many false arrests as a result of federal law enforcement officers simply not being trained on our the Califoria laws – which are complex and often nonsensical. Sheriff D’Agostini is very pro-2nd Amendment and his county is very nearly a “shall issue” county. Too bad that the rest of the state’s elected officials are not like him!

In Secret, Court Vastly Broadens Powers of N.S.A.

With the secret FISA court’s approval, the National Security Agency is collecting data not only on terrorism cases but also other foreign intelligence issues like nuclear proliferation and cyberattacks.

The rulings, some nearly 100 pages long, reveal that the court has taken on a much more expansive role by regularly assessing broad constitutional questions and establishing important judicial precedents, with almost no public scrutiny.

unspy's insight:

In a correctly functioning society the relationship between the state and the individual is defined in public. If people in power go beyond the defined bounds journalists and whistleblowers should out them leading to them being jailed. Thats the purpose of a free press. Thats why its important.

How did America’s police become a military force on the streets? - ABA Journal

How did America’s police become a military force on the streets? - ABA Journal | Save Our Sheriff | Scoop.it

Police departments across the country now sport armored personnel carriers designed for use on a battlefield. Some have helicopters, tanks and Humvees. They carry military-grade weapons. Most of this equipment comes from the military itself. Many SWAT teams today are trained by current and former personnel from special forces units like the Navy SEALs or Army Rangers. National Guard helicopters now routinely swoop through rural areas in search of pot plants and, when they find something, send gun-toting troops dressed for battle rappelling down to chop and confiscate the contraband. But it isn’t just drugs. Aggressive, SWAT-style tactics are now used to raid neighborhood poker games, doctors’ offices, bars and restaurants, and head shops—despite the fact that the targets of these raids pose little threat to anyone. This sort of force was once reserved as the last option to defuse a dangerous situation. It’s increasingly used as the first option to apprehend people who aren’t dangerous at all.

What They Want Us To Forget About The Balance of Powers

What They Want Us To Forget About The Balance of Powers | Save Our Sheriff | Scoop.it

Certain forces would have us believe that just because somebody passes a law, the cops are duty-bound to chase down everyone who breaks it and judges are duty-bound to punish everybody the cops bring in. This could not be further from the truth. It is, in fact, the opposite of the truth. This type of thinking will cause our system of government to fail and our freedoms to be lost!

unspy's insight:
