Gender Differences in Searching for Health Information on the Internet and the Virtual Patient-Physician Relationship in Germany: Exploratory Results on How Men and Women Differ and Why

Gender Differences in Searching for Health Information on the Internet and the Virtual Patient-Physician Relationship in Germany: Exploratory Results on How Men and Women Differ and Why | Salud y Social Media | Scoop.it

Many studies have shown that women use the Internet more often for health-related information searches than men, but we have limited knowledge about the underlying reasons. We also do not know whether and how women and men differ in their current use of the Internet for communicating with their general practitioner (GP) and in their future intention to do so (virtual patient-physician relationship).

Will patient-generated data from HealthKit reshape the EMR?

Will patient-generated data from HealthKit reshape the EMR? | Salud y Social Media | Scoop.it

Some industry stakeholders from providers to investors to consumer device makers think something like Apple’s HealthKit could be the catalyst that finally brings the patient — and patient-generated data — into the healthcare ecosystem in a way that electronic medical records have persistently failed to do.

Andrew Spong's curator insight, October 16, 2014 6:05 AM

Whilst I think the general theme delineated here -- consumer-collated, interoperable, personalised health data redefining what the 'electronic health record' is, and toppling legacy providers -- is germane, from what we know of HealthKit so far it seems unlikely to be the sort of epoch-defining release that the article's title suggests.

However, if Google were to acquire a company like Withings and integrate its products into Android...

Apple's HealthKit "an embarrassment"?

Andrew Spong's curator insight, October 3, 2014 5:46 AM

It's early days and we should expect HealthKit -- or rather, the integrations that third party developers are creating for it -- to improve.

What I found interesting is that whilst the article -- entertaining though it is -- is a one-sided polemic, it's noteworthy that the comments to date have not elicited the sort of stalwart defence of Apple that pieces with such eye-catchingly inflammatory titles usually attract.

Most observers seems a little downbeat about HealthKit now that they've seen it, it appears.

Art Jones's curator insight, October 3, 2014 10:55 AM

Version 1.0 of anything can be underwhelming but we expect so much more from Apple.
