I am starting to hear more and more about mixed-channel, omni-channel, or converged marketing. It's the idea of using multiple forms of marketing (i.e., digital, offline, etc.) in a converged campaign with the goal of creating a single brand experience across multiple channels. I can see a lot of value in doing this but also a lot of complexity. I'd love to hear about anyone running a converged marketing or omni-channel campaign.

Many organizations practicing content marketing focus on the short-term: they are looking for immediate wins (which very much aligns with how marketing campaigns traditionally operate). The problem with that, from a content perspective, is that it's very reactive forcing content producers to create new content constantly and quickly. Agile principles, when put into marketing practice, can actually help content producers remain focused on the longer-term strategy while still being able to produce short-term success.

Fantastic advice and great topics Joe and Robert tackle in this edition of their podcast. Most notable, I think, is the question of quality vs. quantity when it comes down to content creation. Is it better to produce less, but higher quality, or more, but lower quality, content? Can you have both? I think the right answer is about consistency. It doesn't matter when you produce so long as its consistent...and consistently of a high quality.

Couldn't agree more. When it comes down to it, content marketing is really about data. Sure, creativity plays an important and critical role in creating the content assets, but data tells you everything you need to know about your audience and their reception of your content. With that kind of granular information, you can better target content and provide your audience what they really need.

Some very basic steps for starting a content marketing approach for your business. Ultimately, I am beginning to believe that effective content marketing is all about targeting: reaching the right person at the right time with the right content. It's not just about storytelling. These are six really important tips that can help your content marketing efforts take off. I especially like #3: provide something of value. You don't need to give away all of your content. Gate some. Make people offer up something in return (name, email address, fee) to gain access to what you consider valuable content. Just remember...the content has to be worth the spend!
