SailJuice Winter Series - SailRacer - The Great Lakes handicapping system explained

SailJuice Winter Series - SailRacer - The Great Lakes handicapping system explained | Sailing articles for IBRSC | Scoop.it
Paul Wright-Anderson's insight:

Interesting article that helps explain why Lasers rarely do well on handicap.  Of course we're not a 'great lake' but our water is bigger than most inland clubs around here.  Countless times I've felt I've been in the lead on handicap at the top mark, only to have faster boats overtake and leave me so far behind I've finished only 4th or so.

Proper Course: Two Styles of Laser Roll Tack

Proper Course: Two Styles of Laser Roll Tack | Sailing articles for IBRSC | Scoop.it
Paul Wright-Anderson's insight:

Which tack do you think is best?  I think the German comes out of the tack quicker and with a slower tack makes more ground to windward.  However the American tack would be great in a tacking duel!

Rooster Sailing: Rooster Replacement PREMIUM Radial Sail for the Laser®

Rooster Sailing: Rooster Replacement PREMIUM Radial Sail for the Laser® | Sailing articles for IBRSC | Scoop.it
Supplied folded and with battens, the Premium Replacement sail is made from a softer/more supple cloth than used on our standard replacement sails, the similarity between this sail and the official is now closer than ever.
Paul Wright-Anderson's insight:

To me it's a real worry that there are now 'premium' 'replacement' sails available - not just replicas.  They have a narrower panel width.  Think hard before you buy one of these because it is possible that in future it may not be accepted for club racing at IBRSC - at least not as a Laser.
