'Mickey Mouse and Coca-Cola Revolution': The Roots of Libya’s Chaos

'Mickey Mouse and Coca-Cola Revolution': The Roots of Libya’s Chaos | Saif al Islam | Scoop.it
As Libya votes to form a national unity government, activist Sukant Chandan speaks to Radio Sputnik’s Loud & Clear about how the NATO bombing – and Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton – have plunged the country into chaos.

"The West needs a unity government on paper in order to justify its next phase of military intervention, which it wants to do under the guise and the excuse of Daesh in Libya," Chandan tells Loud & Clear host Brian Becker, referring to Monday’s election.

"And indeed, Daesh in Libya are a primary, so-called ‘rebel faction’ that the leading NATO powers teamed up with."

Both the NATO bombing and the subsequent support for terrorist groups were used to overthrow former leader Muammar Gaddafi, who had become a threat to Western governments.
Libya Today: The Catastrophe of NATO's Bombing

"Gaddafi was too radical because he was directly assisting for many decades and continuing a new phase of support to black and Asian people in Europe, and other radical movements," Chandan states. "He had to be cut off, so said imperialism, and that’s what they did."

Without the aid of NATO airstrikes, Libya’s government would have held onto power. It was only with the direct intervention of the West that rebel forces were able to overthrow Gaddafi, violently dragging his body through the street – a sight US presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton joked about on live television.

"Hillary Clinton is the most hawkish, and frankly…[the joking] betrays her totally sociopathic side to her," Chandan says, adding that, "It was Hillary Clinton who ensured that the death squads in Libya have a leading role to play in the junta in Tripoli."
Turns out Colonel Muammar Gaddafi was right when he told former British Prime Minister Tony Blair that if his regime failed then Islamic extremists would attack Europe, leaked phone conversations between the two leaders revealed, according to the Telegraph.

Prophecy Fulfills: Leaked Files Reveal That Gaddafi Warned His Ousting Would Lead to Terror Attacks in Europe

While the mainstream media portrayed Libyans as suffering under Gaddafi, that depiction was far from the truth.

"The Libyan people – and I’ve visited many working class areas and housing projects, etc. – they lived very well," he says. "It’s well known that the United Nations said Libya had the highest development index of any African country, and I think probably people in Libya had the best living standards of arguably any people of the Global South."

#Ukraine - La curiosité journalistique devient fatale même en #France - #medias #censure #PaulMoreira #atlantisme

"

Ajoutée le 4 févr. 2016

"It's Worse Than 2008": CEO Of World's Largest Shipping Company Delivers Dire Assessment Of Global Economy | Zero Hedge

"It's Worse Than 2008": CEO Of World's Largest Shipping Company Delivers Dire Assessment Of Global Economy | Zero Hedge | Saif al Islam | Scoop.it
Earlier today, we highlighted the rather abysmal results reported by Maersk, the world’s largest shipping company.

To the extent the conglomerate is a bellwether for global growth and trade, things are looking pretty grim. Maersk Line - the company's golden goose and the world's largest container operator - racked up $182 million in red ink last quarter and the outlook for 2016 isn't pretty either. The company now sees demand for seaborne container transportation rising a meager 1-3% for the year.

“The demand for transportation of goods was significantly lower than expected, especially in the emerging markets as well as the Group’s key Europe trades, where the impact was further accelerated by de-stocking of the high inventory levels,” the company said, in its annual report.

Just how bad have things gotten amid the global deflationary supply glut you ask?

Worse than 2008 according to CEO Nils Andersen who last November warned that “the world’s economy is growing at a slower pace than the International Monetary Fund and other large forecasters are predicting.” Here’s what Andersen told FT:

“It is worse than in 2008. The oil price is as low as its lowest point in 2008-09 and has stayed there for a long time and doesn’t look like going up soon. Freight rates are lower. The external conditions are much worse but we are better prepared.”

As FT goes on to note, “capacity in the container shipping industry increased 8 per cent in 2015” despite the fact that Maersk only sees global trade growing at between 1% and 3% in 2016.

Imports to Brazil, Europe, Russia, and Africa are all falling, Andersen warned. The company's business, Andersen says, is suffering from a "massive deterioration." That, you can bet, will likely lead to a "massive deterioration" in Maersk's shares, which took a substantial hit on Wednesday in the wake of the quarterly and annual results.
