Tiarni Widdup's insight:

Although an office is a quite place many people do come through it daily and the safety for them is very important. item that could potentially trip someone are made sure that they aren't in any trafficked walkways. And any other major rules will be set in the office to make sure that everyone is safe.

OHS in Retail (Coles Supermarket) | OHS in Sports Psychology | Scoop.it

Working in retail means that a large amount of different people come through this store at many different times a day. Because this store sells food it is top priority that everything is looked after and in good shape for buyers.

Tiarni Widdup's insight:

When it comes to OHS in a supermarket it is quite easy for an accident to occur where it is staff or a customer so it is very important that things are cleaned if spilt and the food put on display is in date to enable consumption to be safe. In this kind of store they would consider all age groups too, to make sure the safety of all was known.

While this article in related to the products such a food and such, working in masters is very similar. If a product is faulty, such an electrical item, it could electrocuted the buyer and they could be seriously hurt. This  is why everything is checked once it enters the store, and if any product is faulty, it is easily returned to the store for a refund.

Also the job for a fitness instructor is to help those who aren't sure how to use an object and make sure their technique is correct.

Tiarni Widdup's insight:

Although there are rules to follow to prevent major injuries it still occurs in many sports. Putting in place a no touch rule just like the game of soccer can decrease the chances of a major injury to a player or others involved in the sport, but isn't always effective due to accidental actions.

OHS in Sport (Trampolining)

OHS in Sport (Trampolining) | OHS in Sports Psychology | Scoop.it

when it comes to any sport safety is needed. with this particular sport trampolining because it involves certain apparatuses they are quite dangerous if not known how to use properly. with this sport it usually involves younger children from the age 8 and older. certain mats and protection is used in this sport and also a minimum distance between each apparatuses is use to make sure its safe.

Tiarni Widdup's insight:

This sport is very dangerous if knowledge isn't known about it. Because of the dangers with trampolines a lot of safety regulations are taken into account to make sure both the coaches and athletes are safe. Having the coaches trained makes it easier for them to see before hand if an injury may happen and this will help them prevent it. Also their experience too.

Mike Margolies's curator insight, May 3, 2013 12:08 PM

While there is an intuitive factor that makes me think of course this would be true, I think this sends a clear message about return to play. Perhaps we must make sure players are physically capable to return. Strong physically. I would think this coud even be traced back to a weaker core group. When an athlete over protects because of injury we see other types of injuries as well.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Wants Youth-Concussion Laws in Every State

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Wants Youth-Concussion Laws in Every State | OHS in Sports Psychology | Scoop.it
National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell re-emphasized his goal today to have all 50 states adopt youth-concussion laws "sooner rather than later."

"We recognize that we have an opportunity to make a difference by taking the lead in encouraging health and safety awareness at all levels of football and in all youth sports," Goodell said.

In front of an audience of more than 2,000 neurosurgeons at the 2011 Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Goodell spoke about how concussions have affected his league and the sport of football in general.

He led off his speech by saying that the NFL considers nothing more important than player safety, and that the "effective prevention, treatment, and diagnosis of concussions" was the league's greatest player-safety issue currently.

But he made sure to remind the audience that concussions aren't an issue exclusive to the NFL.

"Concussions are not just an NFL or sports issue," said Goodell. "They are a public-health issue. ... Leadership and collaboration across all sports will be critical."

During his speech, Goodell referenced the Lystedt Law, named after Zachary Lystedt, a former youth-football player in Washington state who nearly died after sustaining a concussion on the field. Goodell said Lystedt "has inspired me the most" of all coaches, parents, doctors, and student-athletes involved in youth sports.

As a result, the NFL has been urging all 50 states (and the District of Columbia) to adopt youth-concussion laws. Goodell noted that the diagnosis of concussions in youth sports has exploded over the past decade, increasing at a rate of 15 percent per year." more....

Jake Martin's curator insight, October 29, 2013 6:27 PM

I completely agree with Comissioner Goodall because concussions are becoming a major scare to all levels of football at an alarming rate. I believe education is the biggest issue and not many people truely understand how dangerous concussions are. They are ruining the game of football and major change needs to happen in order to protect football before its too late.

Josh Cupp's curator insight, October 30, 2013 9:57 PM

Rodger Goodell is on a campaign to make the game of football safer for the players. He wants the safety to start all the way at the bottom with high school football to start checking for concussions in every state. This crusade to make the game safer is an example of a path goal leadership style as he is willing to change some of the game to fix health problems in it and protect his players.

Most people do think of trampolines being very dangerous activity for kids and adults but no one really knows that even if you are 10 meters above the ground it is still possible to land safely. Due to the amount of protection that is provided by mats and other persons involved and the skills of control the athletes have learned over the years.
