The Boy with the Henna Tattoo - Four Corners | Beks OHS Quests and Journey | Scoop.it
Monday 10 March 2014 To the world they appeared as model parents with a beautiful son.
Rebekah Airey's insight:

Warning. Disturbing.

Makes me sick in the stomach hearing what these two men who were meant to protect their son instead initiate the sexual acts. Feel for this little boy.

Quest 1 - Three dead, at least 12 missing after explosion causes two buildings to collapse in Harlem | Beks OHS Quests and Journey | Scoop.it
A GAS leak has flattening two New York City apartment buildings in an explosion that killed at least three, injured 63 and left more than a dozen missing.
Rebekah Airey's insight:

Gas can be so dangerous if not managed. My grandmother died from a gas explosion when the fridge sparked causing her unit to blow. Why wasn't anything done if these people could smell the gas for last couple of weeks and complained about it?

Quest 1 - Virgin Australia, safety regulators, wake in fright in Moranbah –

Quest 1 - Virgin Australia, safety regulators, wake in fright in Moranbah – | Beks OHS Quests and Journey | Scoop.it

fromAnother totally unacceptable safety breakdown at the remote Queensland outback town of Moranbah has appalled Virgin Australia and the ATSB. On Wednesday 5 March one of Virgin’s ATR turbo-props landed at the airport to discover the runway occupied by the “aerodrome safety car’” . It managed to stop safely. In its notification of a serious [...]

Rebekah Airey's insight:

Interesting being on the inside to this incident and what is shown in Media. Communication breakdown has caused this Near Miss HPI. Virgin say they did not receive communication from the "Aerodrome safety car" when there is recordings to prove that he did make contact with no response.

Virgin was not to land due to possible bird strike on the air strip.

Why did Virgin miss this communication? Why did the "Aerodrome safety car" resume when no "Positive" communication was made?

There is more to the story than what the Media shows.

Quest 1 - Increase in mine deaths prompt safety alert

Arew c

Rebekah Airey's insight:

Are companies loosing focus? With the strains on financial issues across Australia are companies putting more pressure on workers, supervisors, and management? Cost cutting, job losses, short cutting, and fatigue - squeezing more out of their workers is just some of the issues.

I myself was recently made redundant from a coal mine site, owned by a well known company. I was in the training department - This project a 60% greenfield new to industry mine site. This itself concerns me. The quality of training was planned well at the start but as costs become an issue training has been cut back. 60% new to industry workforce with a lack of training.... to me this has disaster written all over it.

The safety department is currently being skinned to bare minimum and pushed back to each section (Supervisors responsibility)... meaning no qualified safety professional on site!  What does this mean for the Safety industry?  It doesn't surprise me that the commissioner is concerned at the death rate, I too am concerned.

Quest 1 - Estimated 3,800 deaths by suicide could be work-related | OHS News | Beks OHS Quests and Journey | Scoop.it
Rebekah Airey's insight:

An interesting topic regarding suicide and work. I think mining companies are especially prone to this, employees being away from their family members (pressure on relationships) What more can companies do to help? Why isn't this reported in company statistics?

I am finding as I work in different businesses it is interesting to see the different attitudes in the work groups towards "Safety". How do you think it is created?
