More than 5000 people signed an e-action informing David Cameron that they did not believe that a badger cull would make any significant contribution to controlling bovine TB in England.
The TB Free strategy published today makes it clear that badger culling is still a part of government thinking.
The 2014 roll-out of a badger cull in England is now off the cards and 2015 is election year. Nothing would loose votes much faster than a badger cull.
The pilot culls in Gloucestershire and Somerset will continue but with changed operational rules. NO data will be collected. The whole miserable exercise will have done nothing other than to prove that there is no cheap way to cull badgers.
And that is what the pilot culls were all about - money. Not scientific data, not bovine TB control, not building public trust in a badger cull strategy and certainly not positive PR for the farming industry.
There are no winners in the bovine TB badger cull debacle. Now its time to rebuild working relationships if a bovine TB free England is to be achieved within the 25 scope of the bTB strategy.
