It is important to stretch before running because it helps warm up and loosen up your muscles. Stretching also allows your muscles to lengthen allowing you to have a longer stride. If you stretch you are less likely to pull a muscle or injure yourself while running.

Meghan Chisholm's first marathon so completely zapped her motivation that she quit running for a month. She kept active with yoga and spinning classes, but when she wanted to restart serious training, even a three-mile jog felt hard.

After completing a race it is important that you continue to workout, however you do not want to immediately return to hard workouts and training. You should recover from the race by walking, lightly jogging and stretching. This way you can gradually recover and keep your body in shape.

I am running my first half-marathon in three days. I am as nervous about the distance as I am about what to eat before my run on Sunday morning. Should I plan on pasta for lunch and dinner each meal leading up to Sunday?

During the days leading up to a race it is important to provide your body with proteins, carboydrates, fruits and vegetables. You should also hydrate your body for a few days, not just the day before or the day of. Your body will perform at its best in a race if you eat at least two hours before the start. You should not introduce your body to new foods the day before a race because it could affect your performance.
