Hack Your Craft's insight:

So it seems this merger is spewing the same rhetoric, but just ona larger scale. Once again these streaming knuckleheads are claiming more exposure will somehow get more people to buy music on line and to shows. “listening more, or loving a song and buying it on iTunes, or getting them to go to shows. It’s ultimately going to be great for artists.”, says Daniel Ek of Spotify. Whatever dude, you guys do you and we will do us. Your concerns ultimately do not include that of the artists so spare use the patronizing blah blah.

Translation: If nonprofits start looking at themselves as a brand that people can fall in love with. It would be better if they see your brand, your social cause as a brand that they can self-identify with instead of thinking of it as a charity. The thought process of giving is then turned on its ear.

Some good reminders in this post. I particularly like the following quote:

"To these brands, and many others, I’m invisible. Yet what these brands don’t realize is how important I am to them. Sure, I don’t contribute monetary value, but I do give them tons of word-of-mouth marketing, which can bring them more loyal and valuable customers. Additionally, I bring them targeted, trusted referrals, which are much more valuable than any marketing they could do themselves."

This reminds me of my own love for Dell. Their computers suck but their customer service is top notch!
