Waffle on Social Media

The reason I don’t like social media is that it takes two things that are polar opposites and duct tapes them together. Your own utility – to save links, to write text, to move files or materials, to keep notes, to communicate with yourself in the future, to communicate with some other specific people – and the social media outlet’s desire to fulfill its own objectives first.

"Feedly Pro community is now 35,000 members strong" [in a letter to subscribers]

"Feedly Pro community is now 35,000 members strong" [in a letter to subscribers] | RSS Circus : veille stratégique, intelligence économique, curation, publication, Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

This month marks the one year anniversary of the feedly Cloud. Developing the feedly Cloud was a huge undertaking for our small team, but it has allowed us to grow feedly as an independent service that connects to the millions of sources that readers rely on each day for knowledge and inspiration.

The Pro community is now 35,000 members strong, and we'd like to thank you for backing us and allowing us to innovate faster.

Because of you, we were able to invest in the hardware and infrastructure needed so feedly can connect to 40 million sources of information and stay fast.

You allowed us to integrate feedly with Evernote, OneNote, LinkedIn, Dropbox, IFTTT, and Zapier to empower users to share content more efficiently. You also enabled us to offer an open API and power 200+ third party applications, allowing users to pick the experience and device that works best for them.

Over the past year we’ve grown our team to 14 people and it is because of your support that we're can work every day to build feedly and make it the home screen app that connects you to the knowledge and inspiration you need to keep ahead.

Another moment when the feedly community came together this year was the DDoS ransom attack. We emerged from that ordeal stronger and better equipped to serve you.

Feedly Pro members mean we’re able to continuously invest in building a better, faster, stronger and more useful feedly.

I would also take this moment to publicly thank our angel investors David Marcus, Pierre Omidyar, Antonio Casalena, Thomas Kurian, Eric Setton, Alexandre Mars, Stan Chudnovsky, Michael Amar, Jean-David Benichou, Pascal Bensousan, Frederic Court, Frederic Benque and Olivier Devaux. They invested last summer in a show of faith in feedly and our vision, at the time when most people thought that there was absolutely no chance we would be able to survive the end of Google Reader.

Thanks to your support, we have been able to come a long way in just one year. We look forward to growing even more together over the next 12 months.

EKCKO: create private or social "newsrooms" with RSS feeds and filters

Your news, your way! EKCKO gives you the power to choose the news that you're interested in. Easily create assorted NewsRooms containing only content you want.
Serge Courrier's insight:

Some good ideas but newsroom modules are quite small (you can adjust width in Edit page layout) and unfriendly in comparision with Netvibes features. Filter options are basic (not more than 7 keywords, only "OR" principle).

When Google Reader died, I was heartbroken. Luckily, like a rebound lover, Feedly was there to pick up the pieces and make me feel all warm and safe. However, as time has gone on, Feedly has started to seem to lose interest in me, pushing me into the arms of another lover: Inoreader.

1. configure dashboard widgets with your favorite streams. Some examples of widgets that I use: new articles from a specific folder,
inactive feeds, statistics, tips & tricks, rules log

2. adding custom sharing buttons for those services that are not already included. You can add multiple custom services by specifying their URL. I successfully configured a Send-to-Kindle feature in this way.
