Making a Simple Animal out of Clay - YouTube

This is how I teach my grade one to grade seven students to make animals out of clay, starting out with the most basic shapes and then moving up to more comp...
Rose Acres's insight:

Art and Geography

This is a nice activity for children as it allows them to explore another medium of Art besides 2D. I would incorporate this into a geography lesson by assigning groups of children a country or continent, and they would then go on to research the different kind of animals that live in said country, and then sculpt them. At the end of the lesson each group could show their sculpted animals and the rest of the class could try and guess where the animals are from.

Rose Acres's insight:

Science

This would make for a very fun and engaging Science lesson. I would not show the students this video but would instead conduct the experiment with them.  For health and safety reasons I believe the best way to do this would be to have the entire class set a task, and then in small groups they could come up to the designated "messy" area and I could go through the experiment with them.

Rose Acres's insight:

Behaviour Management

The thing I like most about this game is that it does not as such punish bad behaviour, but instead rewards good behaviour. If you are "good" you and your team receive a small prize, if your team are "bad" you are not punished, you simply do not receive a prize. This is an excellent way to promote team work within a class along with creating an excellent learning environment.

Rose Acres's insight:

Art and Home Economics

This is a project to introduce a class to different fabrics and materials. I would show the class this video, but I would then say to them to create any animal or character they would like for their own puppets. Depending on the age of the class I would perhaps have them sew some of the puppets along with gluing, so as to introduce them to another skill involved in fabric crafts

A Step-by-Step Guide to Making Roman Mosaics for Schools - YouTube

How to make a mosaic design using Green Frog Pottery's Roman mosaics kit. The kit is perfect for schools studying Romans. Order class packs at www.greenfrogm...
Rose Acres's insight:

History and Art

This is a fun Art project that can incorporated into History lessons. Whilst studying the Romans for example we could spend a lesson looking at the art work they created, including mosaics. It would be unnecessary I feel to show the class this video, but I would certainly have them complete this activity. Not only do I believe this will engage them in the study of the subject, but it would also make a lovely display to have them all on show. In fact I could potentially take it a step further by designing a large Roman style mosaic, breaking it down into squares and give each child one to mosaic with the pattern already laid out. This way all together they would be part of one larger image.

Rose Acres's insight:

Numeracy

This video could be applied to Numeracy lessons when studying shapes, probability etc

Whilst I wouldn't necessarily show the entire video to a group of students I could show them a clip to teach them how to make them. This would certainly be a fun task that I believe would help engage the class in the lesson

Horrible Histories - Egyptian Gods and The Devourer - YouTube

The Egyptian Gods sketch from series 1 of Horrible Histories with the Devourer The last line is my favourite...:) Horrible Histories is copyright of the BBC
Rose Acres's insight:

History

Horrible Histories have created a cartoon series aimed at educating children of a Primary age. Along with containing lots of facts, they are also amusing and thus keep the children entertained and engaged in watching the video. Watching one of these episodes would be a way to treat the class at the end of a History lesson if they have behaved well.

Rose Acres's insight:

Literacy

I believe this is an excellent method to use in order to teach children how to read. I have seen this method implemented in a primary school and the results are fantastic, children are able to sound out words which would have before been considered too complex for them to read. I noticed the difference especially in guided reading lessons, children in a school who did not use this method from reception were reading at a much lower level than in the school that had.

Rose Acres's insight:

Music

This is a fun group activity to complete with the class when studying music. I really like this lesson as it is inclusive so that children who aren't learning an instrument can join in on a level equal to those who perhaps are. I would not show the class this video, but I would certainly implement elements of it within my music classes

3D Flower POP UP Card BEST OF ALL - YouTube

3-D Flower POP UP Card
Rose Acres's insight:

Art

This is a lovely project to introduce a class to paper crafts. I would show them the video, but would also demonstrate the method myself as the video moves quite quickly and could be confusing. This project could be for Mothers Day, or used as an Easter Card if at a Christian school

Rose Acres's insight:

Art and Literacy

This is a video which could be used to introduce Art into a Literacy lesson. In the lesson the students would be asked to write a short story, following this we would watch this video and then they would go on to illustrate their own stories using the methods shown. Illustration is an art form that children are constantly coming into contact with throughout their education, and so teaching them some of the skills required to illustrate a book is I believe something that is both interesting and useful.
