Italian archaeologists have unearthed the largest Roman water basin ever found, right in the heart of modern Rome.

Found some 65 feet down near St. John in Lateran Basilica during the excavation of the new metro C line, the huge irrigation basin measures 115 feet by 230 feet.

Cuando hablamos de volcanes cercanos a las ciudades, rápidamente se nos viene a la memoria el ejemplo de Nápoles, con el Vesubio en sus cercanías. Sin embargo, en Italia no es el único ejemplo, y la propia capital, Roma, se encuentra con un aparato volcánico a menos de 20 kilómetros de su centro, aunque eso sí, a diferencia del Vesubio, este no está activo y el fondo de su cráter está ocupado por el lago volcánico más profundo de Italia; un lago que dio un susto tremendo a las poblaciones circundantes 400 años antes de Cristo y que dio pie a la construcción de una infraestructura sorprendente incluso para los ingenieros de hoy en día. Se trata del emisario del Lago Albano.
