Federer Defies Age in Thrilling Comeback

Federer Defies Age in Thrilling Comeback | Roger Federer and others | Scoop.it
NEW YORK — He was down two sets to none, and even Roger Federer thought the end might be near, that he could be knocked out of the U.S. Open, that his chances for that one last Grand Slam had vanished...
Miklos Szilagyi's insight:

Epic match... Gäel has two match balls in the third... At the end we will see that Federer will learn to fight...:-))) He was for long time the James Bond, the Angel of the courts... no sweat, no pain, only wins... then, it started to fade off... he started to be desperate and had fear (still, Nadal will be back...:-))) - and still, he hasn't won the US Open...) He "only" won an epic match against a younger guy who he BTW likes... He was great... but, wait... no sweat either after the 4 hours (!!) when Gilbert had asked his nasty questions...:-))) he is a champion....:-)))

Roger Federer Sheds Single Tear After Wimbledon Loss

Roger Federer Sheds Single Tear After Wimbledon Loss | Roger Federer and others | Scoop.it
Tennis legend Roger Federer nearly won his first Grand Slam title in two years at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships, but he fell in five sets to Novak Djokovic in an extremely hard-fought battle...
Miklos Szilagyi's insight:

Well, he was amazing... somehow both was a little bit on the security side but sometimes they were just in the zone... when he has come back from the edge in the 4th (he has won against the Houdini-Djoko 5 straight game to win the 4th 7:5), it was almost unbelievable... in the 5th "he was there" up to 4 to 4, then... then... he has just lost... and of course (it's a rigid zero-sum game...) Djoko has won... congrats to him!

Djokovic notches up 40th career win

Djokovic notches up 40th career win | Roger Federer and others | Scoop.it
Novak Djokovic defeated defending champion David Ferrer 7-5, 7-5 on Monday to win the Paris Masters.
Miklos Szilagyi's insight:

Paris Masters this year has offered interesting, good quality matches... the winning-practice of Djokovic has saved him against Ferrer... Also, he was able to turn the match into a winning one against Federer who is somewhat back in good form (he's had amazing moments, even sets against first Del Potro, then against Djokovic...)... Nadal is still No. 1 but he was somewhat tired from this extra year of him... Ferrer was the one with bad luck, after beating Nadal he has lost against Djokovic only by 5:7, 5:7, therefore, alas to him, he could not defend his last year Paris trophy...

US Open schedule is a joke but it's a price Murray has to pay

US Open schedule is a joke but it's a price Murray has to pay | Roger Federer and others | Scoop.it
Andy Murray chose his words carefully when asked about the ludicrous US Open scheduling that saw his first-round match end at 11.33pm on the third day at Flushing Meadows.
Miklos Szilagyi's insight:

Well, the "little" inconveniences of the more and more circus-like tennis-arena... sure, they are paid royally but... but what is the really price they pay... their health, it's for sure... sometimes I think that less would be more for us, fans as well...

Was '14 Final Federer's Best Wimbledon Match?

Was '14 Final Federer's Best Wimbledon Match? | Roger Federer and others | Scoop.it
Watching Maestro Roger Federer span 12 years of beautiful tennis at Wimbledon is the centerpiece to tennis’ most glamorous golden age...
Miklos Szilagyi's insight:

Well, it was a really great match but either of them was at their hors de commun top-top form... I missed a little bit the famous killer cross-backhands, the cross forehands far from the backhand side  and also missed a little bit the killer backhand down-the-lines from Djokovic... it wasn't his greatest performance... but as for his fitness he was very OK, so, I have a certain confidence  that he will hang out still for a while...

A First For Stan: How The Monte-Carlo Final Was Won

A First For Stan: How The Monte-Carlo Final Was Won | Roger Federer and others | Scoop.it
Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka go head-to-head for the 15th time in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters final.
Miklos Szilagyi's insight:

Well... as time goes by... But look at his smile and geste... I inwardly feeling their sincerity... Hope, I will always see this Roger who will be able to be support and smiling at his opponent as a friend as I have always seen him e.g. with Rafa when he'd lost... of course, he was sad a little bit but he was/is always capable  for a smile and for a geste of congrat... that's the guy I like not only the exceptional tennis player...

Also, let’s see this in another register. What happened, what is happening? One the biggest tennis player is still in the fight. Now, in Monaco, he has become finalist. After beating Stepanek (6:1, 6:2), beating Rosol (6:4, 6:1), beating sometimes “Federer-beater” Tsonga (2:6, 7:6, 6:1) and then the reported injured ( by the way defender, last year champion) (7:5, 6:2). And then he jst lost by three games 14:17 against Wawrinka… (6:4, 6:7, 2:6), Not too bad, isn’t it? And, for the record, his biggest ever competitor, Rafa has lost against Ferrer in the fourth round (6:7, 4:6) who were straight beaten on his turn by Wawrinka in the quarterfinal (1:6, 6:7). - http://www.atpworldtour.com/share/event-draws.aspx?year=2014&eventid=410&draw=ms

Why on earth should Roger withdraw himself?! (I’m saying this partially to my tennis coach who is a Rafa-fan and was saying already years ago that Roger must quit at the top…)

Wawrinka shocks Murray, Novak cruises

Wawrinka shocks Murray, Novak cruises | Roger Federer and others | Scoop.it
Andy Murray was the latest grand slam winner to be bundled out of the US Open and deny fans a dream matchup, while Novak Djokovic stayed the course on Thursday to complete the last four line-up.
Miklos Szilagyi's insight:

I seem to understand the trend: Federer and Murray are missing something what the others originally has had (Nadal) or learned (Djokovic, Wawrinka), the extraordinary willpower... which does not mean that at least Rafa and Djoko are not genial tennis-players, they, of course, are, but what makes the real difference, is the willpower...
