Miklos Szilagyi's insight:
Perhaps, Ostapenko (18, Latvia) is a resl new air in the WTA tour... She has beaten already Kvitova (!!), today the match is not finished with Zheng (China) but her tennis is amazing (Zengh is not to bad either but the real interesting surprize is really Ostapenko). Her second serve is still not on the top and sometimes one feels that she continuously stretch things, her game is very hazardous but it is anyhow a real fun to see her to play...

Miklos Szilagyi's insight:

Voilà... there is (still) Federer on the scene and there are the Federer-imitators (I know, it's harsh...). Federer almost surprisingly left behind two of them in the last two rounds, first Dimitrov and than even more easily Goffin (he's had had already with them tougher matches as well...) "In Federer" the original Federer is still better than he's clones...:-)))

When Federer can play in his rhythm, he is still almost unbeatable... it's not only with these guys but also e.g. with Murray... that's a bigger challenge but, still, these are normally classical matches (with all the beauty of the game all these mean...)

Then, there are/were Nadal and Djokovic, with their own agendas and they are good enough to break Federer's rhythm... well, I am very interested how it continues in Melbourne...

Roger Federer | Overview | ATP World Tour | Tennis

Roger Federer | Overview | ATP World Tour | Tennis | Roger Federer and others | Scoop.it
Miklos Szilagyi's insight:
2017 is another epic year in Federer's life-calendar... he won 2 of the 4 Grand slams, he lost only 8,6 % (3 of 35) of this year matches (the life score is 22 %)... that's a real feat for a 36 year old, even if he is now not alone in this still successful age-bracket (Serena & Venus Williams, Lopez, etc.). This year Grand slams will be friendly won by him and Nadal (I forsee the Spaniard's final victory in the US OPEN as well)... the old guard is still very much there...

Roger Federer won vs Stan Wawrinka, Australian Open | Roger Federer and others | Scoop.it
Stan does his job and forces Federer to serve this match out with a hold to 15.
Miklos Szilagyi's insight:
Wow... Federer in the final in the Australian Open... might be that once more against Nadal (what a feat!), we'll see... This was not an  easy one... there was a flat 2 first sets for him but then the somewhat missing practice in the last period and the already long run here on this Open have hit back and he seemed to be tired, slower, less focused for 2 whole other sets.... of course, as it is normally in such moments, Wawrinka has suddenly shown his strong revival and he has really come back to the match... and then one more revival came, this time that of Roger's and he pulled finally the match... the final will be difficult, either against Dimitrov or (especially) against Nadal... anyhow, on Sunday it could be an interesting, passionate match just like this on today...:-)))

At the end we will see that Federer will learn to fight...:-))) He was for long time the James Bond, the Angel of the courts... no sweat, no pain, only wins... then, it started to fade off... he started to be desperate and had fear (still, Nadal will be back...:-))) - and still, he hasn't won the US Open...) He "only" won an epic match against a younger guy who he BTW likes... He was great... but, wait... no sweat either after the 4 hours (!!) when Gilbert had asked his nasty questions...:-))) he is a champion....:-)))
