8 Indisputable Reasons Why We Don't Need Offices

8 Indisputable Reasons Why We Don't Need Offices | Rocky Mountain Entrepreneurs Succeed | Scoop.it
Looking back a decade or so ago it was absolutely essential to have an office, or more likely, a cubicle. That's where we had meetings, saw our coworkers, and just got work done. But today do we really need corporate offices?

Jane Sleeth's curator insight, October 7, 2013 12:26 PM

I love how designers who are trying to get their names and reputations out there keep talking about the need for more and more open offices/workstations and the ability for people to work from home. The fact is there are still thousands of jobs which require access to co-workers, clients and or require periods of concentrated and quiet effort. This catch all review of offices of the future are not based  on the realities of the nature of work in NA or the need for the human brain to interact with others at times and then have quiet private time to work. Sure wish Ergonomists/Human Factors Design experts were part of this conversation.  JESleeth OPC

The Decline of Detroit in Five Maps

The Decline of Detroit in Five Maps | Rocky Mountain Entrepreneurs Succeed | Scoop.it

"Detroit was once the nation’s fourth most-populous city. Today, it became the largest American city to file for bankruptcy."

"And no discussion of Detroit is complete without mention of race and segregation. In 1950, when Detroit's population was at its peak, the city was 82 percent white. After decades of white flight, that number is reversed: the city is now 82 percent black and 10 percent white. On the map below, Detroit's city limits are obvious—especially its northern boundary, along the infamous 'Eight Mile Road.'"

Jay Ratcliff's comment, August 8, 2013 4:38 AM
I did not think that they showed the time aspect very clearly. I would have like to see more data from 1950 or any data before 2005. The article talks about the decline from the 50's but does not show much from that time period.

Gradients For Light Effects:

TO get a nice light effect, press D then X to set your Foreground color to white and your Background color to black.

GO to Layer>New Fill Layer>Gradient, set the Mode to Soft Light in the New Layer dialog, and click OK.

CLICK on the Gradient thumbnail in the Gradient Fill dialog, and choose Special Effects from the Gradient Editor's flyout menu.

I love the Soft Stripes preset to create a light effect. Don't forget to play around with the angle, opacity, color stops, color, etc.

Businesses need to adapt, and the same applies to loyalty programs.

Here are great insights from Steven Van Belleghem:

"Why customer loyalty is down

Companies can’t  keep up with rising consumer expectations. Loyalty programs are missing their mark. Digitization makes everything transparent. Focus on individual  touch points instead of on the customer experience as a whole. No unique  relevance to consumers. "

Provides in depth review on each point.

this look pretty nice i would like to go see it in person

Victoria McNamara's curator insight, December 12, 2013 10:36 AM

By looking at this picture you automatically think its a waterfall within the water. This image is actually just showing the mix of sand and silt deposits mixing together. The light to dark colors is what makes it look like a waterfall.

Jess Deady's curator insight, May 4, 6:24 PM

Another spectacular sight. Of course, you will need a plane or helicopter to venture above it to see it, but this illusion is pretty nifty.
