Jean-Claude Heudin: Les 3 lois de la robotique

Jean-Claude Heudin: Les 3 lois de la robotique | Robótica Educativa! | Scoop.it

(Credit: Oculus VR) Linden Lab intends to integrate the Oculus Rift virtual-reality headset with Second Life, Wagner James Au reports on New World

luiy's curator insight, April 28, 9:23 AM

Linden Lab intends to integrate the Oculus Rift virtual-reality headset with Second Life, Wagner James Aureports on New World Notes.

“The Oculus could become Second Life’s killer app, but only if Linden Lab is willing to go all in,” said Au. “Sounds like they are doing just that, in an official capacity.

We’ll get to experience Second Life with the Oculus Rift sometime in 2014 or 2015, when (and if) the retail version of the Rift comes out, as scheduled, he said.

“But we’ll probably see early experiments with integration this year, from Linden Lab staff and third party developers who own Rift dev kits.

“And I’m even more convinced that Philip Rosedale’s new start-up is also working on another Oculus Rift-powered version of virtual reality, too. Given all that, we should be seeing a lot of virtual world/virtual reality innovations in the coming months.”

Does that mean YouTube celeb Grandma will don a wild outfit and hang out in Second Life? One can only hope. — Editor

To innovate, scientists and engineers find inspiration in the arts | SmartPlanet | Robótica Educativa! | Scoop.it

In the innovation field, a rebirth of Renaissance thinking is brewing. Scientists and engineers are engaging with the arts to think creatively.

The idea is also currently reflected in the debates on re-vamping the U.S. educational system to boost the innovation skills of U.S. students. Media artist John Maeda, president of the Rhode Island School of Design, has spoken at numerous events — including before Congress — about the value of incorporating the arts to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) educational initiatives, turning STEM to “STEAM,” as Maeda has said.

Some disciplines have evolved to their own death. Engineering has evolved logically, but not necessarily culturally,” Silver of Intel and Makey Makey, who was trained as an electrical engineer, told me at PopTech. “Creativity isn’t part of that any more. So we look to where it is; we’re desperate for it. We look to art. And it’s wonderful, because it’s there.”

| Scoop.it
