SNATCH: Robert Pattinson - Chronicle Of A Changing Icon

SNATCH: Robert Pattinson - Chronicle Of A Changing Icon | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

Translation:

For a long time, Robert Pattinson had only been a Twilight character: a kitsch romance actor, sex-symbol of all the teenagers of the world, and press people favorite which were delighted of his complicated love affairs with Kristen Stewart. And then, there has been his meeting with David Cronenberg in 2012 in Cosmopolis, which marks the début of a new orientation more independent in his career and changed his image. From the Barnes suburb, where he was born, to his new Hollywood life, portrait of a pure bold actor, victim of a very long misunderstanding. ...

Chris Weitz sums up perfectly what Robert Pattinson’s last few years looked like: an enormous madness. From 2008 and 2012, the time the Twilight franchise lasted, the five movies adapted from Stephanie Meyer’s books earned three billions dollars in total. Robert Pattinson became, for his part, one of the biggest pop icon from this century beginning. Thanks to his romantic vampire role, he had been imposed as the sex symbol of an entire generation of teenagers, and provoked a hysterical wave comparable to the one known by Leonardo DiCaprio during Titanic, for better and for worse. The better: he became a multimillionaire at only 21, and has known how to use his fame to concentrate on more prestigious, doing, from Cosmopolis by David Cronenberg in 2012, an independent turn which made him one of the most passionate actor from his time. The worst: he sacrificed a good part of his youth, and has to live now under constant protection because of the phenomenon Twilight. “He did not predict this immoderation”, sums up his friend, the actor and director Brady Corbet....

"He thought the first Twilight would have been art movies about vampires. He did not have any idea what was waiting for him” David Cronenberg.

"Twilight" Actors Guri Weinberg and Erik Odom Talk About Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart

"Twilight" Actors Guri Weinberg and Erik Odom Talk About Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

Erik Odom has high praise for the movie’s stars, Stewart and Pattinson:
“Meeting them, I was surprised at how down-to-earth they were. It was sweet to watch them together on set.”
Weinberg agreed that the actors were not egotistical:
“When you walk into a big film like this with big stars like this, you wonder how they’re gonna be ... how they’ll respond to you,” he said. “It would be a disservice to mention only the Top 3 (Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner) because the rest of the main cast were also just genuinely nice. You hear other people talking ... about how everybody’s nice and all that, but on this movie, everybody really was. They were amazing people. For them to have so much success at such an early age and still be so grounded ... to me, it was amazing to see. It was an honor for me to meet all of them and work with them as human beings.”
Odom, a self-confessed “hopeless romantic,” says he believes the appeal of the “Twilight” series is its timeless romance element — and the chemistry between Stewart and Pattinson made it a hit on-screen.
“(The filmmakers) really got it right with Kristen and Rob as far as the casting went,” he said. “There’s been such an overlap of how iconic the characters are, but also how iconic Kristen and Rob are — both on their own. When together, it became bigger than anyone could’ve imagined.”

Twilight Screenwriter Reflects on the Series' Power in Hollywood

Twilight Screenwriter Reflects on the Series' Power in Hollywood | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it
No matter how you feel about Twilight — love it or hate it — the phenomenon has been one of the biggest stories to come out of the movie industry in the last five years.

Now that the series is ending, Melissa Rosenberg, who penned all of the scripts for the Twilight franchise, talked to Women And Hollywood about the impact the blockbuster flicks have had on the industry.

When asked if Twilighthas changed how Hollywood thinks about girls — and women — Rosenberg replied:

"I hope it has. I think the prevailing wisdom prior to Twilight was that you would have tent-pole movies all for 13 year old boys. And they were driving box office. I actually had producers in the past tell me, you can't do any kind of action movie or open a big tent pole movie with a woman because there are no women who open movies, except for maybe Angelina Jolie. I was appalled by that comment. So what Twilight does is show how women/girls can drive box office and they can support a tent pole movie. They're an extremely passionate fan base. This coincided with the 13 year old boys starting to stay home and play video games and work on their home media stuff. They're no longer going to theaters in droves. It's a sort of interesting confluence of events that all came together with women becoming an active audience."

Even if you wish the story had a better plot, a stronger female character, a less-creepy romantic lede, the fact remains that it's been a juggernaut, raking in cash from book sales, movie ticket sales and merchandise. If there's one thing that gets attention in Hollywood, it's money. Hopefully this means women will find better offerings at the multiplex in the years to come.

Robert Pattinson Interview with FilmInk (Australia) | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

Robert tells about his Twilight experience, actual personality, etc.:

"People don't really know who I am, which is a good thing (laughs). My actual personality differs from Edward so much that people can't really get it or place it. If you have a massive over-saturation of your image everywhere, all you can really do is dissipate it - you diffuse everybody's idea of you. You might, for instance, do an interview where you completely contradict everything that you said on the last interview, and behave like a totally different person. Then everybody's like, 'I have no idea,' That's the only way that you can do it, because that's the only way that you can believable in your movies afterwards. That's what every actor has to deal with - that mix between public perception and your actual character. They're looking through the eyes of your life as a performance; so they have to look through that, and then the performance you're actually doing...."

Impact of Twilight on M&E Industry Is More Bigger... It ruled box office and social media - IBM vs. Twilight fans

Impact of Twilight on M&E Industry Is More Bigger... It ruled box office and social media - IBM vs. Twilight fans | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

Reaction of Twilight fans is so emotional that it breaks IBM emotional analytics. The problem with Twilight is, apparently, that it's too emotionally complex. It can be very useful to use its audience reactions as a way of teaching computers how to process emotions.

The final installment of the Twilight Saga series of movies, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, didn’t just rule the box office over the Thanksgiving weekend, it also ruled social media, with more than 5 million Tweets devoted to its mix of horror, soap opera and teenage angst. However, the content of those Tweets wasn’t necessarily as straightforward as you might expect, and that complexity caused problems for IBM when it tried to analyze the online chatter.

IBM researchers worked with analysts from USC Annenberg to look at the Twitter commentary on Breaking Dawn Part 2 and other movies in the two weeks leading up to the Thanksgiving weekend with the intent of using the messages to “teach” its computer systems to be able to more easily recognize and process emotional responses. The problem was, Twilight fans were a little bit more emotional than IBM techs had anticipated, and expressed those emotions in a way that made them less easily “read” by automated systems.

According to the write-up in the Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ibms-computers-try-understand-twihards-394028), applying “analytics and natural language processing technologies to study the tweets” revealed that “some of the sentiment was reflecting the ‘audiences’ emotional reaction to the tear-jerking moments in the movie.’”

IBM’s general manager for Media and Entertainment, Steve Canepa, says that automating the collation and accurate analysis of audience reaction through social media to an entertainment event is going to become increasingly important to studios and other content creators as Twitter, Facebook and other social outlets allow audiences to share their reactions faster than old-fashioned polling methods can measure. “What we are doing is essentially creating a focus group in real time,” Canepa explained, adding “We are attempting to understand what are they saying, what motivates people to see [a] movie.”

For now, the science of understanding sentiment on Twitter is being highlighted as a potential marketing tool for movie studios and TV networks. But the potential applicability of predictive analytics goes further.

So Twilight and Twihards help to do it better...

Robert Pattinson interview on Lorraine | Breaking Dawn Part 2

Robert Pattinson interview on Lorraine | Breaking Dawn Part 2 | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

"I'm kind of bored of everything": Robert Pattinson responds to questions about his love life.

"I mean it's just, the publicity aspect of doing movies, I've never been comfortable about it, it distracts you from what you're trying to do as an actor."

Rob also discussed how long ago they shot the latest film - the last in the saga.

"It's very strange, 'cause we shot it so long ago. And now I feel like I'm a lot older."

He told Lorraine that he had no idea when they started making the films that Twilight was going to be so huge.

"Not at all, the weekend it came out, we started to realise when people are screaming and rioting. But when we were shooting we had no idea."

"I think I'm only starting to realise what happened, 'cause you're in a bubble."

Rob also managed a cheeky little dig at Dan Radcliffe and co when he talked about fans camping out for days before the premiere, saying they "didn't do that for Harry Potter."

Perhaps the weirdest thing Rob discussed was his accidental method acting for his part, as pale vampire Edward.

"I don't tan any more, it's weird," he said.

VARIETY | Twi-hard with a vengeance: 'Twilight' takes bite out of international box office

VARIETY | Twi-hard with a vengeance: 'Twilight' takes bite out of international box office | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

Lionsgate-Summit's "Twilight" finale, "Breaking Dawn -- Part 2," took a massive bite out of the international box office over the Nov. 16-18 weekend, debuting 40% ahead of "Part 1," with a hulking $199.5 million from 61 day-and-date territories, and repping the year's biggest overseas debut.

While the "Twilight" finale's $141.l million fell short of a domestic franchise record, the film's global bow of $340.6 million came in significantly higher than any of the previous installments, shattering the opening of the franchise's previous worldwide best, last year's "Breaking Dawn -- Part 1," which debuted to $283.5 million.

"Part 2" drew its best results from the U.K., which contributed a franchise-best $25.1 million, followed by Russia ($22 million).

In Latin America, the vampire finale outperformed its predecessor by 57%, with $43 million, including $18.1 million from Brazil and $12.2 million from Mexico. And while "Part 2" trailed 2009's "New Moon" in France, the finale scored Gaul's highest debut so far this year, grossing $17.5 million (or 2 million admissions).

As part of Lionsgate's business model of selling off international rights, "Part 2" was released overseas via local distributors. The company, however, will partake in overages in most territories.

"Part 2" has only a few major markets yet to go: Up next are Germany and India, Nov. 22. Japan will be the last market to launch the film, on Dec. 22.
