MTV | Robert Pattinson's Future Is About To Get 'Really Tough'

MTV | Robert Pattinson's Future Is About To Get 'Really Tough' | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it
'Breaking Dawn' star heads into the future with 'The Rover' and into the depths of Iraq with 'Mission: Blacklist.'...

As "Twilight" fades into the rearview mirror, Robert Pattinson's future is looking very bright. Well, that's not entirely true — when looking at one of Pattinson's upcoming projects, "The Rover," the future actually looks pretty bleak.

Pattinson stars alongside Guy Pearce in director David Michod's "The Rover," a futuristic Western set in the Australian desert. Pearce stars as Eric, a no-nonsense loner who loses his car and only remaining possessions when he's robbed by a gang. Eric forcefully enlists one of the abandoned and wounded gang members, Rey (Pattinson), to help him track down the gang and get his belongings back at any cost. It's a complicated and dangerous plot indeed, but it's also one that Pattinson is more than happy to embrace.

"It's a really tough script," he told MTV News while promoting "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2." "I don't really know, I don't even know how to talk about it yet. It's one of the best I've read. It's one of my top five favorite scripts I've read since I started doing this. It's really nerve-racking."

Nerve-racking as "The Rover" is, it pales in comparison to the real-life dangers presented by "Mission: Blacklist," Pattinson's upcoming war movie based on the true story of Army interrogator Eric Maddox, who was involved in the capture of Saddam Hussein. The role requires Pattinson to film in Iraq, which understandably made his family members uncomfortable at first — but the actor thinks his loved ones are beginning to warm up to the idea.

"My parents seem to be coming around to it now," he said with a laugh. "That's strange. I don't know what happened."

Brady Corbet, Director of “The Childhood of a Leader”, Talks about Film

Brady Corbet, Director of “The Childhood of a Leader”, Talks about Film | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

These days, the 24-year-old Corbet is hardly in need of his many guardian angels. Along with finishing up post-production on another acting/co-writing effort, a Norway-U.S. co-production called "The Sleepwalker" (“a haunting film that’s kind of the feminine answer to "Simon Killer" in a lot of ways”) and setting to work on his music-video reel (including a cinematic love letter to the expressive power of dance set to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “Man on Fire”), Corbet is about to embark on his most daunting and risky gamble to date. As soon as he wraps "Paradise Lost", he heads back to Paris to begin prep on his debut feature as a writer-director. And it’s a doozy: a WWI-era period drama called "The Childhood of a Leader" [next project of Robert Pattinson] that he plans to film in both English and French with no genre hook or titillating graphic content.

“It’s about an American family that has to go to France for the Paris peace conference,” Corbet says. “But it’s really a dark fable about this little boy coming of age during a very politically charged period in world history.” Corbet is well aware that to many it might seem like something of a tough sell. “I’m trying to find new and evocative ways to talk about it and make it sound not so dry because it is very formal, but it's almost a thriller. It flirts with being a thriller for sure. Yeah, it's a strange film. I guess I’ve always been passionate about anything that feels difficult.”

More Detailed Synopsis of “The Rover”

More Detailed Synopsis of “The Rover” | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

The Rover (2014) has set to a very touching theme. The Rover (2014) is the story about a person named Eric. Eric (Guy Pearce) is a guy who has lost all of his concerns to the world. He does not bother taking any kind of interest in social living. This might be due to some kind of great grief embedded into his soul. Well, all he still has is the affiliation with something. That affiliation can make him to do anything, even calling his life at satke. Eric is living too hard in the damn dry and vast dreary desserts of Australia. His all affiliation and feelings are concerned with is last possession. He may be in love with it. His smooth life gets a jerk when a gang of some rascals confronts him and snatches away his beloved last possession from him. Eric is now in furious temper. All he is passionate for is to get his last possession back to him from them. <...>

The passion is ever arising in the heart of Eric, thus he keeps on moving to gain his goal. On the way, he finds Rey (Robert Pattinson). Rey is the lost and stranded member of that same gang.

Luxury Daily: Dior uses star power to push new men’s fragrance

Luxury Daily: Dior uses star power to push new men’s fragrance | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

French label Christian Dior is increasing the exposure of its new men’s fragrance Dior Homme through extensive social media content featuring brand ambassador and actor Robert Pattinson.

The announcement of Mr. Pattinson as the face of the brand’s fragrance has driven much attention to the campaign due to the anticipation arising from his own fan base. Brands are able to target specific consumer groups by selecting a brand ambassador with an eager following.

“The right celebrity brand ambassador can add reach and impact while augmenting brand values, said Amanda Rue, strategist at Carrot Creative, New York.

“Celebrity endorsement adds a face, a personality and dimension to the brand,” she said. “The right brand ambassador shares the same brand values and conveys the essence of the brand.”

... Celebrity brand ambassadors are a sure way for brands to generate interest among aspirational consumers.

...

“Rob Pattinson specifically appeals to a broad base of women which extends the Dior reach to potentially new audiences, she said. “[His] fans are maturing and are likely to aspire to own other luxury brands in the same space as Dior.

“Dior’s reach with Robert Pattinson will be heavily influenced by his organic fans and followers gained from his celebrity status.”

THE ROVER - OFFICIAL Teaser Trailer HD

THE ROVER, starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson. Director David Michôd's anticiapted follow up to Animal Kingdom.

10 years following the collapse of society, a man will go to any lengths to take back the one thing that still matters to him.

In theaters summer 2014.

Indiewire about The ROVER teaser:

Four long years have passed since David Michôd shook up the cinematic world with his nerve jangling gangland drama "Animal Kingdom," but it looks the wait has been worth it. The director is back with "The Rover," and judging by the first teaser trailer, he'll once again be putting you on the edge of your seat.

Starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson, the story is set in war-torn future beset by financial collapse, and follows a man who trudges across the Australian desert to locate his stolen car and secure the mysterious cargo found inside. But obviously, that logline is barely half the story with this first look promising a stark tale of violence in the desolate outback. Based on a story by Michôd and actor Joel Edgerton, in short, it looks like our instincts were right in ranking this so highly on our 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2014.

David Cronenberg talks about Maps to the Stars with straight.com

David Cronenberg talks about Maps to the Stars with straight.com | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

Cronenberg:

“For me, all my films are very fleshy. They’re also very funny. People have asked me when am I going to do a comedy, and I say, ‘I do nothing but’. Still, you can imagine, what’s the most common thing you’re shooting in a movie? It’s the body. It’s the human face. So to me, all of my movies are concerned with the body, no matter what. I think A Dangerous Method was really very body-focused. Even though the bodies are often in a lot of clothes, there’s the way the clothes are meant in that era to shape the body, to hide the body, to represent seriousness because [for instance] you’re wearing a black coat.”

As for Maps—Cronenberg is a good with suspense even in interviews, it turns out, but he finally gives an answer —“I would say that Maps to the Stars really feels very much like me to me. It is also very much Bruce Wagner, who wrote the screenplay, but it’s taken me 10 years to get that movie made, so I have to say that obviously there was a compulsion there for me to not let go of it. I tried several times to get it made, and I finally did. What more can I say? I really needed to make that movie.”

He adds: “And it’s certainly got some horrific scenes. Some of them are only horrific emotionally, mind you. I say, only.  But there are a few pretty good body moments, too, I think you’ll find.”

Photographer Nan Goldin mentions Robert Pattinson and Dior in an interview with L'Express | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it
From L'Express:
I loved taking pictures of women like Kate Moss naked on a horse, or Tilda Swinton, covered with hide. In front of them, I am in "caress" mode. I also enjoyed photographing Robert Pattinson for Dior, in a harsh light. He looks like a portrait of the painter Paul Cadmus exposed at the Brooklyn Museum in New York ... Same brown hair, same blue eyes ... Nothing of him synonymous with "pretty".

FIRST STILL of Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan from LIFE + director's comments

FIRST STILL of Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan from LIFE + director's comments | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

In the latest Entertainment Weekly, Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan are featured in the first still from Life! Stills photographer, Caitlin Cronenberg captured a beauty with these two leading men. Anton Corbijn also commented on his two stars and why they’re perfect for the roles of Dennis Stock (Pattinson) and James Dean (DeHaan).

Text on pic:

Life Takes a New Look at James Dean

In 1955, Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock hit the road with James Dean—culminating in the iconic shot of the actor brooding in Times Square. That real-life road trip is the subject of Anton Corbijn's drama Life (now filming in Ontario), starring Robert Pattinson (right) as Stock and Dane DeHaan as the troubled star. “When I see Rob I see an inner turmoil that is great for the role," says the Dutch director. “And Dane is really interesting. He has a beautiful face, but it's a hard face to grasp. It's hard to see how Dane reads [on screen] sometimes, and the same goes for James Dean.”

Interview of David Michôd, Director of The Rover and Animal Kingdom

Interview of David Michôd, Director of The Rover and Animal Kingdom | Robert Pattinson Daily News, Photo, Video & Fan Art | Scoop.it

David Michôd about "The Rover":

“It’s about me thinking about today. I can already tell that I’m going to have to go out of my way over the next few months to point out that it isn’t ‘post-apocalypse.’ It’s about ten or twenty years in the future after just a really steady western economic collapse. And on that level it feels like me talking about an entirely possible Australia.”

“It took me quite a while to work out what the next movie was gonna be and I had written the first draft of The Rover before I had written Animal Kingdom and never thought that it would be the next movie. I just suddenly found myself returning to it and saying ‘I wanna do this one.’”

“I would LOVE to start showing people because I’m sick of sitting in this weird limbo land of having finished it a couple of months ago and just wanting to know what the world makes of it.”

“If it were up to me I’d be screening it right now, I’d be walking around showing people on my phone.”
