How to Light a Cigar with a Closed Foot - CigarNoise - Cigar Reviews, Interviews, and More

I used to be frustrated with cigars that featured a closed foot, thinking that it took longer to light and created an uneven burn. Then I learned that the intent of a closed foot is to offer us the opportunity to experience the wrapper by itself, before adding in the full experience with the wrapper, binder, …

There is nothing better than recognizing the men and women who work countless hours in order to provide the attending sports fan a memorable experience. This article also highlights the importance of an Enterprise asset management (EAM) & Computerized Maintenance Management Software. It also gives a great example on a stadiums recommendation to improve their maintenance issues. This article also has links to get great information on several different aspects of sports management that can be very useful for our final project.

Good look at behind the scenese of facility management.

Cam Farnham's curator insight, October 15, 2014 12:33 AM

1. I learned that without a good EAM CMMS solution, maintenance can quickly skyrocket in price. Yes the job will get done, but the operation skyrockets in price. Also i learned that if you plan your maintenance through spreadsheets, you will forget something.  The article compares it to when someone tried to plan there days using sticky notes. You will loose them , and will always miss something.

2. I found it interesting that there were 7 specific objectives they described. I thought there could be an endless amount of objectives to make the maintenance  of sport better. Also i found it interesting that the article stated the community would be much happier if they did not have get a new stadium, because of costs and memories.

3. I selected this article because one of my first jobs might be working for a sports team in the facility field. I always thought driving a zamboni would be such a cool and fun job. Another reason i chose this is because my father has told me many cool stories about facility management. My father worked for the Brown University facility management staff when he was in college, until he made the football team.

4.This information about facility management will help me out because i know how to stay organized and how to be the most successful. I know not to use spreadsheets, or sticky notes to plan maintenance. Also i know specific objectives to get done to be the most successful and to make everyone happy.

Lawsuit Shows Why College Recreation Centers Need Risk Management Plan

All sports facility managements nees a Risk Management Plan.

Damien's curator insight, March 22, 2014 6:58 PM

When we think of creating a sports facility and being either a manager or owner we have to remember it can also be a dangerous place. Meaning incidents happen and lawsuits get filed, so as an owner or manager we have to always remember to have insurance as well as proper risk management plans to protect against t lawsuits and avoid incidents.

Jack Botham's curator insight, August 27, 2015 10:04 AM

This article demonstrates the importance of having a risk management plan in place. Constant audits and inspections are mandatory to avoid serious injury or a potential fatality. It is important for builders to perform inspections not only keep people safe, but also to maintain their own legal obligations. Building inspections further ensure that structures and equipment on site, such as scaffolds, are in good working order to prevent a court case similar to the one in this article. A case like this could result in a builder being forced out of business due to financial penalty. A fatality on a site could result in the builder being sent to prison due to legislation breach.

bryant tucker's curator insight, July 23, 5:33 PM

This article in my opinion picks up on the facts of why not just recreation centers should have a risk management plan, but it coincides with any type of facility that will keep from having lawsuits or any issues.

This article addresses the keeping the fans safe. Although it is important of maintaining good sight lines to see the game, keeping fans safe should also be a priority. Maintaining railing only to code seems to be out of date. Maybe when the code was established, the risk of them falling was lower. Raising the minimum height of the railings while still maintaining the line of sight for fans would be a good way to keep them safe while enjoying the game.
