An interesting look at transmedia properties which have books as a key component.  In fact, Dynasty of the Magi has just won the award for Best Transmedia Project in the Publishing Innovation Awards.

Parker Donat's curator insight, January 22, 2013 7:30 PM

For business storytelling to be a success there needs to be a good strategy around making money. Given that eBooks and apps are so popular there is a definate opportunity to tell a great story using these platfrorms to create a more engaged community. I haven't bought this book but it seems to really understand transmedia and the use of muliple patforms. And this book, Dynasty of the Magi has just won the award for Best Transmedia Project in the Publishing Innovation Awards

Interesting article. -

In the midst of the massive geek Mecca that is San Diego Comic-Con, the big Marvel Studios movie panel had all the theater of a presidential campaign rally. Tom Hiddleston appeared in costume as Loki, the bad guy from Thor, and rallied the crowd in character. Then: so many movie stars, including the full casts of the upcoming Captain America sequel and Guardians of the Galaxy. And just when it seemed like it was over, Joss Whedon, patron saint of nerds, walked out for a Steve Jobsian one-more-thing and introduced the first teaser for The Avengers sequel. Eight thousand fans, some of whom had been waiting in line since the night before, shrieked like their souls were being ripped from their bodies.

A Journey to Make Video Games Into Art

A Journey to Make Video Games Into Art | Digital Cinema - Transmedia | Scoop.it

'How Thatgamecompany, the creators of Journey, became the gaming industry’s new heroes overnight...

In the industry press, TGC’s games are often described as “experimental.” The studio’s past three titles, released on the PlayStation Network as part of an exclusive three-game deal with Sony Computer Entertainment America, featured no dialogue or conventional protagonists. Flow, released in 2007, requires players to guide a microorganism through a series of underwater two-dimensional plains; in Flower, the player guides a single flower petal across different environments. Journey, released in spring of 2012, was TGC’s first online game. Following its release, it became the fastest-selling PlayStation Store title in both North America and Europe. (Sony did not reveal how many copies the game sold, saying only that it broke sales records.)...'

Zoe Quinn:  "Do you have an idea for a game you wish you could play rolling around in your head? And no one is making it? I've got good news for you: there are more tools and support than ever to help people who have no experience with coding or development start to learn how to create the games of their dreams. If no one is making what you want to play, why not learn how to make it yourself?"

Hans Heesterbeek's curator insight, August 6, 2013 2:45 AM

Could be usefull. I'm not experineced in makeing games. But for some projects it could be useful. Wouldn't it be better, smarte and quicker to get somebody involved how knows the busines or are these tools for concepting?

Canada's web-only TV shows at a turning point - Toronto - CBC News | Digital Cinema - Transmedia | Scoop.it

'Canada has become a top producer of online TV shows, including a winner of an International Digital Emmy Award...

In Canada, one of the better-known series is Guidestones, about two journalism students trying to solve a murder, which won this year's International Digital Emmy for a fiction series. Another is Out With Dad, about a teenage girl coming out as a lesbian, which has been translated into eight languages and is seen around the world.

Jason Leaver, who created the first two seasons of Out with Dad with just a few thousand dollars and volunteer labour, including his own time, says over 16 million people have now watched the show. He believes that makes it the most-watched web series ever made in Canada.

"I'm very proud of that," he said...'
