Clearly we will be seeing more & more forays into Twitter:

'[Fox's President of Digital Media David] Wertheimer describes Fox's social media strategy as a combination of producing micro-content (content for a show's Twitter and other social media platforms), shareable content (which fans of a show can share on their own accounts) and driving the conversation on Twitter and elsewhere, before, during and after a show's airtime (and even between seasons). The exact combination depends on the specific show. Even shows as similar as "The Mindy Project" and "New Girl" – both comedies of related subject matter geared to the same demographic that air back-to-back – have their own particular approaches....'

'..Another product launched in May, Amplify takes this ad targeting one step further by taking TV programming and its advertisements, and repackaging it as photos, videos and other media in the viewer's Twitter feed. Twitter first started experimenting with Amplify with sports programming – with Tweets airing instant replays of big plays, ads often included. It has since expanded into the entertainment space; MTV and its sponsors used Amplify for the VMAs. Twitter has announced other partnerships with conventional channels such as A&E, FOX and BBC America as well as nontraditional content producers, including Vice, Vevo and MLB.com...'

Op-Docs & the NFB's “A Short History of the Highrise” to debut at New York Film Festival - i-Docs

Op-Docs & the NFB's “A Short History of the Highrise” to debut at New York Film Festival - i-Docs | Digital Cinema - Transmedia | Scoop.it

'The New York Times’s Op-Docs and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) will debut their new new immersive documentary series as part of the Film Society at Lincoln Center’s New York Film Festival Convergence program –  a showcase for storytelling that transcends a single narrative medium – on Monday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. ET. Following this, the series will premiere on NYTimes.com in October.

“We are greatly honored to premiere at the New York Film Festival’s showcase for cinematic innovation,” said Jason Spingarn-Koff, New York Times commissioning editor for Opinion video.  “In Op-Docs, we celebrate unique voices and creative storytelling approaches, and now we’re bringing opinion journalism to the interactive documentary form.”

The series, “A Short History of the Highrise”, tours the 2,500-year global history of vertical living and issues of social equality in an increasingly urbanised world and follows on from Writer and Director, Katrina Cizek’s previous project ‘Highrise’.  Each film is intended to evoke a chapter in a storybook, with rhyming narration, photographs brought to life with intricate animation, game play and responsive videos that create immersive, exploratory experiences. The series, which unfolds in four short, interactive films, is optimized for tablet devices, which allows viewers tp navigate the story extras and special features within the films using touch commands like swipe, pinch, pull and tap.'

A video trailer is available at: NYTimes.com/Highrise.

GoogleLitTrips Reading List's curator insight, August 3, 2013 9:29 AM

I've seen a few of these before and find them all fascinating. The first of ten (above) is beautiful, but be sure to double click on it to enlarge.  An intriguing visualization of the tracking of multiple plot lines within each of the books on the left lead to several of the most universal elements of plot.

The larger the color area on the right, the more frequently that plot element is found in the books.

If you were to replace the books on the left with just the titles you teach in a single course, what might be color distribution on the right look like.

Better yet, (perhaps) if your students were given this as an optional learning experience for the books they read in a personal reading program, what would the collor distribution on the right look like.

The potential for adapting this kind of concept to an engaging way for students to contemplate the structures, plots, themes, and genres they explore are limitless.

And best of all, this particular visualization is only the first of 10 to follow in this article!
