How to Add Special Effects to Vine and Instagram Videos

How to Add Special Effects to Vine and Instagram Videos | Digital Cinema - Transmedia | Scoop.it

Anyone can become "Instafamous" by adding a filter or a few hashtags to a cool selfie. The real pros live on video.

Vine and Instagram have provided unique platforms for users to showcase their creative ability. While a few seconds with a cellphone camera seems very limiting as a way to share videos, users continue to astound these social networking communities with their unique and clever approaches.

Story Structure Diagrams « Ingrid's Notes | Digital Cinema - Transmedia | Scoop.it

“Yes, it's true, I've had story structure on the brain. I've also recently joined pinterest (of which I immediately became addicted). But there's a happy side effect of these two obsessions… this post!”Holy Cow! Here's a blog post with 10 different diagrams on story structure! I doubt you will ever need another story structure diagram after looking at these. Some are similar. Some have their own unique twist. And then there's the 17 stages of Joseph Campbell's Monomyth to explore. Yikes -- that's a big one!Of course, the simplest story structure is: problem -- resolution. Add to that a set-up/context in the beginning and a meaningful close at the end, and you are done.Hah -- would that storytelling could be so simple! As every professional storyteller will tell you, a powerful story is all in the delivery. Still, if you don't follow the structures in these diagrams, you will simply end up with a plot-based description: "I went to the store. I bought some bread. I came home." No story there! I doubt you would pay money for that one.Soooo -- check out these diagrams, use them to craft your stories, and you are half-way there. Then go work on your delivery :)This review was written by Karen Dietz for her curated content on business storytelling at www.scoop.it/t/just-story-it

Christy Dena:  "There are some books that carry you along a journey until your tears make it impossible to read. Films and television shows, too. Games evoke emotion in a similar way to non-interactive works, with some exceptions – the greatest difference being emotion facilitated through action" ...

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's curator insight, September 4, 2013 4:19 AM

The poet, novelist, screenwriter, playwright and games writer will find similar rhetorical devices being applied in different ways.

What sort of emotions am I talking about? In his essay on emotion in film, film theorist Ed Tan speaks about the difference between what he describes as ‘artefact emotion’ and ‘fiction emotion’ (Tan). Artefact emotions are ‘non-empathetic’ and occur in response to sensory pleasures such as the appearance of the actors, costumes, scenery, and special effects.

YouTube Gets Its Own Film Festival, partnering with TIFF & CFC Media Lab in Nov. | Digital Cinema - Transmedia | Scoop.it

The Buffer Festival will be held from Nov. 8 to 10, at several Toronto theaters: TIFF Bell Lightbox, Scotiabank Theatre, Glenn Gould Studio and the Jane Mallett Theatre.

Fest organizers describe the event as a digital version of the Toronto International Film Festival, which kicks off this week. The Buffer Festival is being presented by Canadian YouTuber Corey Vidal and his ApprenticeA Prods., co-produced with the Canadian Film Centre’s Media Lab (CFC Media Lab). Partners include YouTube, Contiki, Blue Ant Media, Canon, TIFF Next Wave Committee, Cineplex Entertainment and InsideDigital.org.

YouTube content has been incorporated into film fests before, including Sundance. And in fact, YouTube is working with TIFF to screen 40 films in its Short Cuts Canada program at YouTube.com/TIFF 24 hours after their fest premieres. But there’s never been a festival entirely dedicated to YouTube content...

James Curcio:  “Fiction and non-fiction, fact and myth, often aren’t opposites. These lines blend a little more every day. When these things play such a crucial role in our news as well as entertainment media, and in a world where social media platforms are often at the front lines of cultural revolutions, it is increasingly necessary that these things are understood.

Readmill, the social reading experience and book marketing on a whole new level:

“We thought that there was a huge potential in taking what Goodreads had done on social on the web for books, but doing that for a mobile integrated reading experience,” says Berggren. “So instead of having to read your book and then think, ‘Okay, now I have to go to Goodreads, find it there, add it to my profile, and write my review,’ we just wanted to let you share and review from inside of the book.”

“Authors and publishers get access to a dashboard where they can see the engagement matrix of a specific book and see how many people that start reading the book actually finish it, how long it takes, if they recommended it to friends, and how much they shared throughout that experience,” explains Berggren.

According to Berggren, modern publishers miss a lot of marketing opportunities for their authors because they don’t know where or when to target their marketing efforts. "

Carol Koechlin's curator insight, September 3, 2013 8:37 AM

Books of all kinds are often best when shared and enriched by discussions with others. Social media will make that experience available to everyone. There is great potential here for improved literacy on a global scale.
