Russ Burlingame:  "There are few comic book movies that fans will go into with less information than I, Frankenstein; the film was written by Kevin Grevioux and Scot Beattie and adapted to a graphic novel from Grevioux’s first-draft screenplay."

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's curator insight, October 14, 2013 6:06 AM

The graphic novel has undergone some permutations since 2009 and will be released ahead of the movie (which comes out in January) but not by much, so many readers will go into the movie cold, knowing not much more than who’s in it and the basic sense for plot that the trailers give.

Defending Innovation and Net Neutrality at eG8 [Video]

Defending Innovation and Net Neutrality at eG8 [Video] | Digital Cinema - Transmedia | Scoop.it

At the eG8, 20th century ideas clashed with the 21st century economy. The inaugural eG8 forum, held in Paris before the G-8 summit of global leaders, showed that online innovation and freedom of expression still need strong defenders.

An impromptu press conference was held by those who felt misrepresented in the agenda and feared politicians' misguided regulation. Including Creative Commons founder Lawrence Lessig.

Step Up to the Microphone! | Sue Wilson, Media Action Center; Huffington Post | Digital Cinema - Transmedia | Scoop.it

Scan across just about any radio dial in the entire country, and you'll hear exactly the same big city, big corporate programming: Rush Limbaugh, Fox Sports, Top 40, NPR.

But what about local programming? Where are the reporters covering the city council or the county board of supervisors? High school football or Little League? Bake sales or community events? This kind of homegrown programming was once the heart and soul of radio. It formed a public square that informed listeners about the community's very identity.

We've missed that spirit of radio since 1996, when Bill Clinton and Congress decided to allow a few national companies to program the entire nation with their corporate choices of music, sports, and political talk, local needs be damned.

But thanks to activists ranging from the Philadelphia area Prometheus Radio to the Davis, California non-profit Common Frequency, the true heart and soul of radio may be coming back -- if people in local communities choose to be the media they want to hear.

Everything we do and say is story. All standard story structures ask the question 'who am I?' and try to make the answer interesting - or we stop caring. The rules here contain some great visuals and a lot of thought-provoking ideas. Go be provoked.

Quote "

“We don’t tell masters of the medium how to craft their art, but we can help them mold their narrative so that it can successfully expand into different media that don’t feature gameplay.”

It’s the spark that excites the imagination, gives life to the machine of parts inside a game, and compels us to play on.

Take film. Theatergoers are along for the ride while gamers actively participate and shape the experience as its hero, but one bible is not easier to write than the other. “For the most part, our concentration is on the story world, not on how it is portrayed in different media,” said Filipek. “If anything, games tend to furnish richer story world content because they are built to accommodate many more hours of experience.”"

Jim Stewartson:  "Alternate reality games, transmedia, viral marketing, second screen apps, augmented reality, and countless other experimental forms of Internet storytelling are this century’s equivalent of the nickelodeon, a bunch of techniques that, in isolation, are gimmicks but as the building blocks for a new, integrated storytelling format, represent the shape of things to come."

Gary Hayes's curator insight, October 9, 2013 7:18 PM

Quote "

"When you watch a film you can only be passive; you can't change what is going on the screen," he says. "Games are the only medium where the audience can participate in the making. You can become the actor, the director, the writer of the experience – only games allow you to do this. This is why it's such a fascinating medium."

Crafting a story in games does, however, demand different considerations. The inherent level of interactivity changes how a plot progresses and trying to predict what choices players will make means writing scenarios and dialogue to account for numerous outcomes. Yet in scripting Beyond, Cage wanted to avoid some of the immersion-shattering consequences gamers sometimes experience. "When you fail in an action sequence, the game doesn't stop. There is no 'game over' situation. It takes account of this failure and moves to a different part of the story."

For the actors involved, this also means getting deeper into their roles. "Performing when you have to create four or five variations of a scene is a very difficult challenge but an exciting one," says Page. "I would respond, take a beat, give the other response, take a beat, another response. It's difficult just for the basicness of memorising the dialogue and having to constantly emotionally pivot. No matter what the emotional complexity of a scene is, you're doing multiple versions, and that is like some sort of sadistic acting boot camp!""
