Believe it or not, the biggest gaming event in the world happened this week. But San Francisco didn't see any more traffic than usual and New York barely saw an extra gamer enter the city -- no, the biggest event in the world was in GamesCom in Germany.

Peter Sciretta:  "Star Wars Long-Form Interconnected Storytelling could change everything. Lucasfilm are creating a completely connected world, from movies, tv, books, and games."

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's curator insight, August 23, 3:55 AM

Disney and Lucasfilm are working to create a new Star Wars trilogy, a few stand-alone films, a new animated television series following the origins of the Rebellion, plus books, games and even theme park attractions. And from what we’ve heard, the plan is for all of them to interconnect and cross over among one another in ways we’ve never seen in the history of storytelling.

Kent Sheely specializes in brilliant video game subversions.

This is Minecraft re-imagined by Kent Sheely, a new-media artist living in New York. Sheely specializes in videogame subversions like these, adding to, subtracting from, and remixing familiar interactive titles to help us consider them in new ways.

Sheely discovered videogames at a young age and realized he could bend them to his will shortly thereafter. He was 6 when he started learning the programming language Basic, and he grew up with one foot on each side of the medium—avidly playing games and making them. It wasn’t until college that he encountered people using videogames for art: “You know, really re-interpreting the existing work to communicate something about the medium and about its culture,” he says. It spurred him to explore games as a means of expression....'

Video Games Are Good For You | VICE United States

Video Games Are Good For You | VICE United States | Digital Cinema - Transmedia | Scoop.it

The release of one game alone, 2013’s Grand Theft Auto V, generated $800 million in worldwide sales in just 24 hours—more than any other piece of entertainment, ever.…'
