Cost of IVF in Dubai and Abu Dhabi - Fakih IVF

Cost of IVF in Dubai and Abu Dhabi - Fakih IVF | RichDubai | Scoop.it
Cost of IVF packages at Fakih IVF
best ajman's insight:
Costs (updated December 2012)

The cost of an IVF cycle at Fakih IVF depends on the case and the kind of IVF the doctor recommends for the couple. But to give you an idea, the below are the costs of our fertility packages in Dubai and Abu Dhabi:

Initial consultation: AED 300 ($82). If the doctor requires an ultrasound scan during the initial consultation, this is an additional AED 500 ($137). But if you come on Day 2 of your period to start your IVF treatment, then the cost of the initial consultation and ultrasound will be considered part of the IVF package.

IVF-ICSI: AED 28,000 (US$ 7,670). This includes the initial consultation on Day 2 of the period, ultrasound tests, hormone injections, blood tests until the first pregnancy test. The following are not included in the package: Blood tests (CBC, Blood Group for wife; HIV, HBS, HCV for both partners) at AED 1,800 ($493) which can be covered by your insurance, and an extra blood test to confirm the pregnancy at AED 150 ($41). There are also medication you need to buy at the pharmacy for maintaining the pregnancy, which would amount to around AED 280 ($77). If the cycle fails, then the next cycle will be discounted at AED 24,000 all inclusive.

Extra procedures or tests may be required: semen analysis (AED 250 or $68), vaginal swab (AED 250), freezing sperm or eggs (AED 2500/yr or $685), removing a cyst if found during the procedure (AED 4,000 or $1,095).
Mini-IVF: AED 18,000 ($4,930) excluding blood tests
Natural Cycle IVF: AED 14,000 ($3,835) all inclusive
Gender Selection: An additional AED 10,000 ($2,740). Testing for Down Syndrome is included while checking the gender, as well as 2 other chromosomes responsible for over 70% of miscarriages.
TESA: AED 7,000 ($1,917) excluding blood tests (CBC, Blood Group, PT, PTT) which would amount to AED 600 ($164).

IUI: AED 3,100 ($850) excluding consultations, blood tests and ultrasound tests

We are happy to inform you that starting February, if you are a UAE resident, you can pay in 12 monthly installments at 6.49% interest on a reducing balance, provided you and your partner have a total income of at least AED 10,000/month. Find out more here.

If you live outside the UAE, we can help you! Just like many of our patients, you can start treatment for IVF locally (around 10 days of medication) and then come to the UAE for 10-14 days to do the egg collection, fertilization using ICSI, PGD to select the gender (if required), and embryo transfer. If you start treatment locally, you will have to keep us updated with the results of your ultrasound and blood tests by email, starting Day 2 of your period, so we can give you the right dosage of medication to take. Cost for IVF-ICSI in this case is AED 18,000 (US$ 4,930). This does not include the cost of any extra hormonal injections and blood tests you may need the first few days when you arrive, nor the consultation with the anesthesiologist ($82) nor does it include the treatment done in your country before coming to the United Arab Emirates. Please compare prices of the hormone injections so you can decide whether or not to bring some with you if you can buy them at a cheaper rate from your country.

If you are a new patient, please do not forget to bring all required documents with you.

For updated costs on other treatments or any queries related to the above, please contact info@fakihivf.com

You may withdraw from the program at any time during treatment but there will be no refund in this case.

Couples achieving a pregnancy on the first attempt will pay more with this program than the traditional fee. On the other hand, if you don’t get pregnant by the third attempt, Fakih IVF will bear the costs and refund you all your money.

Obama ending Mideast trip with tour of Petra

Obama ending Mideast trip with tour of Petra | RichDubai | Scoop.it
best ajman's insight:

PETRA, Jordan (AP) — Taking on the role of tourist, President Barack Obama walked through the winding, narrow pathways of Jordan's fabled ancient city of Petra on Saturday, gazed up at soaring cliffs of reddish rock and described the landscape with a single word: "Amazing."

"This is pretty spectacular," he said, craning his neck to gaze up at the rock faces as he emerged from a narrow pathway into a sun-splashed plaza in front of the grand Treasury. The soaring facade is considered the masterpiece of the ancient city carved into the rose-red stone by the Nabataeans more than 2,000 years ago.

The Bedouins named the building the Treasury because they believed an urn sculpted on top of it held great treasures, but they actually represented a memorial for Nabataean royalty. Bullet holes from people trying to retrieve the treasure are still visible in the urn at the top.

Dressed for the occasion in khaki pants, a black jacket, hiking boots and sunglasses, Obama began the walking tour at the entrance to the Siq, a narrow gorge winding between two, soaring cliffs into the heart of Petra. The pathway opens up onto the Treasury, then widens into a street where Nabataean burial chambers are carved into the mountains on both sides.

Marine One touched down near Petra on Saturday after an hour-long flight from Amman, Jordan's capital. Overcast skies in Amman had threatened to upend Obama's travel plans but the weather improved during the flight across Jordan's rugged countryside.

Technician Reunites Woman with Lost Diamond 4 Years After It Went Missing

best ajman's insight:

Losing something that you hold dear can send you into a real panic. That's what happened to Christi Hansen of Evansville, Indiana, when she lost the diamond from her engagement ring. Hansen had worn the ring since 1995, when her now-husband gave it to her as he asked her to marry him, but one day she noticed that the marquise-shaped diamond at the center of her ring was missing.

Hansen, who works at a brake-supply company, told NBC 14 News that she retraced her steps and her co-workers helped her look for the diamond, but to no avail. At home, Hansen laid out all her trash on a tarp, pulled on some rubber gloves, and searched through every piece in search of her missing diamond. Still, no luck -- it was nowhere to be found.

Her husband eventually bought her another ring. Then, four and a half years went by. Last Thursday, Wayne Sutton, a printer technician, went to Hansen's place of employment to perform some routine service. Sutton happened to work on Hansen's printer first.

When he first opened the printer, he noticed what he initially thought was just some dust or a piece of paper, so he tried to blow it away. It would not budge, so he looked more closely. Realizing that it might be a diamond, he immediately told someone who was nearby, and they told others. Sutton said he then heard someone screaming: It was Hansen, who was shocked that someone had finally found her lost stone. She now calls Sutton her hero.

Now that Hansen has been reunited with her diamond, she told NBC 14 that she plans to have the stone put into a necklace; she will also keep the replacement ring that her husband gave her

David Bowie exhibition breaks box office records

David Bowie exhibition breaks box office records | RichDubai | Scoop.it
best ajman's insight:

"David Bowie is", which runs from March 23 to August 11, has broken box office records at London's Victoria & Albert Museum, with 50,000 advance tickets sold.

Organizers at a press preview on Wednesday were at pains to point out that more tickets were available and the demand underlines 66-year-old Bowie's lasting impact on music, fashion, video and beyond.

It also coincides with the release just over a week ago of Bowie's new album "The Next Day", his first new material for a decade. The record hit number one in the British album charts at the weekend, marking his return to the top after 20 years.

"His radical innovations across music, theatre, fashion and style still resound today in design and visual culture and he continues to inspire artists and designers throughout the world," said Martin Roth, director of the V&A.

Drawing heavily on the David Bowie Archive, the show features more than 300 objects, with pride of place going to Bowie's stage costumes which allowed him to adopt alternative personas and create an aura of mystery and invention.

Among the recognizable outfits are a striped bodysuit by Japanese designer Kansai Yamamoto for the Aladdin Sane tour in 1973 and the Pierrot costume by Natasha Korniloff which featured in the groundbreaking music video for "Ashes to Ashes".

Isabel dos Santos, dubbed 'princess', named Africa's first female billionaire

Isabel dos Santos, dubbed 'princess', named Africa's first female billionaire | RichDubai | Scoop.it
Daughter of Angola's president of 33 years, Dos Santos is 'no role model' in an oil-rich state where most get by on $2 a day
best ajman's insight:

The clue was in the wedding. When Angola's Isabel dos Santos married a Congolese art collector in 2003, there were reports that a choir was flown in from Belgium and two charter planes delivered food from France. African presidents were among 100 guests at the extravaganza, which cost an estimated $4m (£2.5m).

Evidently, Dos Santos was a woman of means. Just how high her fortune has soared in the subsequent decade is now revealed by Forbes, the US financial magazine, which has named her as Africa's first female billionaire.

Critics were quick, however, to dismiss the 40-year-old as a role model for either Africans or women. She is the eldest daughter of President José Eduardo dos Santos, the continent's second longest-serving leader at 33 years and an autocrat accused of enriching his family at the expense of ordinary Angolans. His daughter is sometimes referred to derisively as "the princess".

Forbes found that Isabel dos Santos's shares in several Portuguese firms, including a cable television company and an Angolan bank, put her on the billionaires' list for the first time. Most of the population in the southern African nation live on about $2 a day.

Dos Santos was born to the president's first wife, Tatiana Kukanova, in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he was studying at the time. As the child of a guerrilla fighting for Angolan independence from Portugal, she had few prospects of fabulous wealth.

She attended a state school in the capital, Luanda, at a time when there was no private school alternative, according to the journalist and anti-corruption campaigner Rafael Marques de Morais.

Complex and Beautiful Photos of Airports Give a New Perspective

Complex and Beautiful Photos of Airports Give a New Perspective | RichDubai | Scoop.it
best ajman's insight:

We don't usually think of airports as places of great beauty. They are mostly a place holding travelers, so it's not often that we take time to appreciate the complex design and efficiency of these commuter hubs.

Artist Jeffrey Milstein wants to change that view. Milstein is an aircraft enthusiast and artist who had previously gained fame for his photos of the bellies of airplanes. As a child in Los Angeles, Milstein would go to Los Angeles International Airport and watch the activity, even memorizing flight patterns.

In Milstein's new collection of photos, he documents with aerial photography the complicated beauty of America's airports. Called "portraits," the photos so far released include views of JFK and Newark Liberty airports. Commenters on the original story at TheAtlanticCities.com called the photos "sublime." Milstein says the collection is meant to show how these transit behemoths "grow organically over time much like a living organism."

Many people were curious how, in this age of increased airport security, Milstein was able to get the shots. He says he does get permission, but leaves it at that. So, in essence, don't try this at home

Juan Manuel Fangio’s Grand Prix-winning Mercedes heads to auction

Juan Manuel Fangio’s Grand Prix-winning Mercedes heads to auction | RichDubai | Scoop.it
The most important racing car to hit the auction block in years will roll in front of bidders this July 12: Juan Manuel Fangio’s Grand Prix winning Mercedes-Benz W196 — after being "forgotten about" in a warehouse for 30 years.
best ajman's insight:

The most important racing car to hit the auction block in years will roll in front of bidders this July 12: Juan Manuel Fangio’s Grand Prix winning Mercedes-Benz W196 — after being "forgotten about" in a warehouse for 30 years.

The 2 1/2-litre straight-8, bearing chassis number "00006," won both the 1954 German and Swiss Formula One Grand Prix races at the hands of five-time World Champion Fangio, and stands to make an immaculate hallway decoration for the wealthy collector when the machine goes to auction at Bonhams' sale during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. And despite being nearly abandoned, it should fetch at least $7.5 million.

The W196 brought innovative technologies to Formula One such as a fuel-injected engine, fully independent suspension, all-round inboard-mounted brakes, and an inline (or lay-down) engine with the goal of creating a lower center of gravity. However, the original W196 Stromlinienwagen was produced with enclosed wheels, and despite finishing first and second in its first race, it was deemed too difficult to place at the more technical racetracks. Mercedes, taking Fangio’s critique to heart, created the open-wheel W196, numbered "00005" and "00006." Fangio took the "00006" to victory in its first attempt at the German Grand Prix.

This victory was then repeated at the following Grand Prix in Switzerland, where Fangio thrashed Ferrari driver Jose Frolian Gonzalez by 58.7 seconds. That win was Fangio’s third in four races, ensuring him his second of five Formula One World titles.

But somewhere along the way, the car fell off the map. According to Bonhams, about 30 years ago the owners tested the engine one last time, then stuck it in a warehouse, where it has sat until now, having never been restored since it raced. That only makes it more valuable; as racing historian Doug Nye told The Age: "Every car that's restored has lost a part of its history because it's been obliterated by repainting or by rebuilding. Nothing's been obliterated on this, it's just a beautiful survivor."

Bonhams Chairman Robert Brooks, calls the "00006" W196 perhaps the “pinnacle” of his five-decade span auctioning off racecars. It is also the only W196 that doesn't still belong to Mercedes-Benz, which rarely sells bits of its racing history.

I’ll be intrigued to see who buys this amazing machine, and even more intrigued to hear what they plan to do with it; Bonhams hopes the buyer restores it enough to run next year on the 60th anniversary of Fangio's win — but not make it too perfect.
