The show I have chosen to make a TV-research about is “Revenge”; it is about a Girl (Emily Van camp) that moved into “The Hamptons” a small town in New York after a horrific dark history of her father being framed for a crime he didn’t commit by “The Grayson’s”, a family he trusted. For this reason, he was sent away to jail and was killed there when she was a little girl. When she grew up, her father kept a box with a picture of all the people that were included in framing him, followed by a letter telling her to move on. However, she is not able to move on and forget her beloved father. For that reason she targets each and every one of them revenging them for what they have done to an innocent man. This series is one of the best series I came across; I would never miss watching it on a relaxing Sunday night. It gives me a lot to chat about with my friends. Also, it shows me how easy people can manipulate you; this keeps me aware of the people I just meet. Revenge is all about pay back, betrayal, and selfishness. It conveys messages to individuals aged 18-49 that may be going through that situation and it corresponds hand in hand with the audience watching it at that specific time. Teenager may link what it happening in Revenge to their current life situation through out the series. It is not just the theme of the movie that devotes many others to watching more, it is also the characters.
The characters of this series play a big role in making it a success. As mentioned by one of me sources (the Characters and Summary) “Barry Sloane as Aiden Mathis, Christia B. Allen as Charlotte Clarke, Emily VanCamp as Emily thorn, Gabriel mann as Nolan Ross, Henry Czerny as Conrad Grayson, Joshua Bowman as Daniel Grayson, Madeleine Stowe as Victoria Grayson, Nick Wechsler as Jack Porter, Ashley Madekwe as Ashley Davenport, Connor Paolo as Declan Porter”. These characters bring more than just a basic meaning to the series. They express true emotional feelings that make you feel like you’re with them all the way. Also, they are able to attract the audience that are going through the same situation. Moreover, revenge was directed by Mike Kelley, and was first released on September 11th 2011 on ABC (American Broadcasting Company). It consist of three seasons and Aires at 9:00pm to 10:00pm every Sunday.
The reason it Aires at that time of the day in my opinion is for two reasons; Firstly, it is because at that time of the day, young children would be asleep and the people that would be up watching Revenge are teenagers and young adults. Secondly, most teenagers are likely to watch this series after a long day of relaxing and to get their mind of studies and work that they will encounter the following day. The reason I am stressing on these two points is because they are many evidences such as the advertisements that come at the time of this series; Car leasing, Chevrolet new technologic cars, and chase bank cards. It is targeting the range of individuals (teenagers and adults) that are in need for these specific products. What proves this is the source (Ratings of Age range), it mentions that “ Revenge earned a 1.7, up three tenths from last week's season low 1.4 adults 18-49 rating.” Moreover, it also advertises cars on the show it self, for instance, the Lexus Emily van Camp known as Emily throne and Ashley Madekwe as Ashley Davenport drive. The shot that is taken while they drive on the road is all promoting the car Lexus. As mentioned in the source (Lexus Promotion), “ Auto maker Lexus is sponsoring ABC’s new drama Revenge and social media is a part of the multimedia package.” These evidences all prove the point of what type of audience watch the show at that specific time.
To sum up, Revenge is a series that attracts many teenagers and adult with the age group of 18-49. Moreover the advertisements and timing of the show is well suited for the specific age category. For instance, the advertisement of Lexus emphasizes that the company is promoting their cars and are targeted for the age group of 18-49. On the other hand, the show is aired at 9:00pm on a Sunday evening because all teenagers and adults would be free at that time and wanting to relax before have a long week ahead of them.
