If you want to reduce your required minimum distribution (RMD) after age 70 1/2, you can buy a QLAC up to $125,000 which will lower your RMD.  The QLAC will pay out when you reach an advanced age.  This is a new regulation (2014) from the Treasury and should be considered based on your situation.
