Jane Hadjion's insight:

Learning or education and the industries employing need to work together to close the gap. The cycle for updating learning cannot continue to be so great or we need to change strategies and accept the irrelevance of some of the content we deliver.

I am certain digital technologies will be part of the future. I am just not convinced we know how they will be. It will make the journey more interesting not knowing.

Westminster College Launches STEM Program for High-Needs Schools

There are 2.4 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) jobs available for every unemployed person in Pennsylvania with STEM skills, according to
Jane Hadjion's insight:

Another excellent example of industry and schools collaborating to bridge the STEM gap without needing to update curriculum every 3-6 months. This integrated collaborative approach has to be the future, it is unreasonable to expect any institution to keep up with the pace of change in STEM careers and knowledge. Particularly as I agree that the base skills remain as key foundational knowledge, it is the context in which they are used that forms the rapid changes.

Putting Art in STEM

Putting Art in STEM | rethinkSTEM | Scoop.it
A creative approach to developing as an engineer: learning to problem-solve like an artist.
Jane Hadjion's insight:

Someone recently said to me "engineers are the artists with the skills, not just to envisage but to create the future". It is such a shame that the focus of engineering and STEM education lies so strongly in the past. Move past the industrial revolution folks, dream big and then equip yourself with the knowledge to design a bright future for everyone on this planet.

How the Humanities Strengthen Science

This article originally appeared in Inside Higher Ed. “Would you like to see the brain collection?” my guide asked, as we finished our tour of the Yale School of Medicine. What scientist could resist?
Jane Hadjion's insight:

A beautiful example of how a combination of skills is required to truely explore a scientific concept and communicate that with others. Is a combination of skills perhaps the key to rapid advancement through a varied perspective and in this case the ability to communicate that to ones peers.

Stem skills: colleges are failing to meet industry needs

Stem skills: colleges are failing to meet industry needs | rethinkSTEM | Scoop.it

HoThe majority of science, technology, engineering and maths curriculums in colleges are not fit-for-purpose, according to a new review

Jane Hadjion's insight:

How are we inspiring kids? Inspiration is a powerful motivator in a world of crowded information. If we can inspire, I believe they would then be able to create a place for themselves within industry and would have the motivation to seek the knowledge required to do so. Todays generations are motivated by 'for purpose' learning, knowledge for the sake of knowledge is no longer enough.
