A recent study by the National Restaurant Association found that more than 95 percent of restaurant owners said they will be on Facebook within two years.

That is, after all, where most of their consumers are. In September, Facebook announced it reached the 1 billion-user milestone.

The food and beverage industry is a major player on the network, as there are approximately 187 million consumer restaurant brand "likes." In addition to engagement, promotions and idea crowdsourcing, some restaurants have taken their Facebook presence a step further by incorporating food ordering capabilities directly from their brand page. This offers those social neworkers the chance to order a meal without ever having to leave the site on which they spend so much time........

“The Wall Street Journal reports that the online takeout and delivery company has filed a confidential S-1 and could make an initial public offering sometime in the first half of this year. A recent look at the economics of the restaurant industry have all signs pointing to more online ordering in the near future. Following the past three recessions, the restaurant industry has grown at a real rate of more than 2 percent over a three-year span of economic recovery. [...] people should begin fulfilling these desires if the recovery continues, according to the report, which describes customers as "primed to burn off their accumulated pent-up demand for restaurants when they are more confident in their personal financial situation." Fine dining was the only category where fewer than half of the establishments surveyed expected to see an increase in online ordering, and even 48 percent of those fancy restaurants anticipate a jump in online takeout.”

So many deals on the internet - coupons are definitely a great marketing tool especially if you allow people to present them from their mobile phones.   Discount codes are also a great way to get people to try your service or for loyalty rewards.
