Microsoft unveils ViralSearch, a Twitter search tool for finding viral content

Microsoft unveils ViralSearch, a Twitter search tool for finding viral content | Restaurant Marketing Ideas | Scoop.it

"One of the many undying questions from web publishers, marketers, and regular web users is "what makes something go viral?" which, coincidentally, is also something Microsoft is working on.

Today the company revealed a new research project called ViralSearch that uses a search engine to identify the most popular content on Twitter.

ViralSearch scans billions of pieces of information, including news, photos, and video, and assigns a virality rating to the most popular topics based on how the content was shared via Twitter".

A lot has been said this month on Facebook, this is probably due to the historical breaking of the 1 billion users barrier. For this historical occasion, Facebook launched a corporate video called The Things That Connect US in which chairs are compared to the social network. Numerous parodies went out in the following days comparing Facebook to beds, toilets and even ex-girlfriends. Of course, we all know that chairs are not like Facebook, but as the metaphor meme is still rolling, I would like to add mine to illustrate a systemic problem brands and organizations have to be aware of: lack of relevant content.A lot has been said this month on Facebook, this is probably due to the historical breaking of the 1 billion users barrier.

Restaurant operators must move from the Technology Age into the Transformation Decade

Restaurant operators must move from the Technology Age into the Transformation Decade | Restaurant Marketing Ideas | Scoop.it

Over the next 100 years, the global population will undergo the same rate of change that has occurred during the past 1,000 years, due to the proliferation of smartphone use and advanced technological solutions.

This "Shift Age" is being defined by three fundamental forces: a flow to increased globalization, continued individualization and accelerated connectedness. These forces, along with several future realities, were presented by David Houle, author of "The Shift Age," during the Fast Casual Executive Summit, held Oct. 21-23 at the US Grant hotel in San Diego.

Houle's presentation, "Leading and Succeeding in the Transformation Decade," highlighted some of the changes the population as a whole will face over the next 50 years as it shifts out of the Technology Age and into one characterized by rapid change....

Long-awaited photo menus make their way to Yelp's desktop and mobile apps

Long-awaited photo menus make their way to Yelp's desktop and mobile apps | Restaurant Marketing Ideas | Scoop.it

Yelp has finally added a crucial feature to its mobile and desktop apps, a native menu feature powered by user-generated reviews and photos.
The most surprising part about the recent that Yelp is adding photo menus to its site and mobile apps is that it took this long. During the eight years that the location review site has been running, in-app menus have been absent. But Yelp announced that it was adding the long-awaited feature, with a visual emphasis, to its mobile and desktop app.....

NCAUSA.org Blog | Hispanic-Americans and Coffee | Restaurant Marketing Ideas | Scoop.it

Hispanic-Americans make up 16.1% of the U.S. population, according to the 2012 U.S. Census, and their numbers are expected to grow to 24.4% by 2050. That’s a current total of 50 million Americans, an increase of 43% since 2000.

And, they drink coffee. In fact, more so than other Americans. New research reveals that Hispanics outpace non-Hispanics in overall consumption, as well as taste for premium coffee varieties. In Ethnicity and Coffee, an NCA report in the National Coffee Drinking Trends market research series, data show that 74% of Hispanic-Americans drink coffee daily – that’s a full 12 percentage points ahead of non-Hispanics. On a less frequent basis, they also drink more – 80% versus 72% for past-week consumption and 84% versus 77% for past-yea

Location, Location, Location Drives Mobile Searchers to Restaurants - eMarketer

Location, Location, Location Drives Mobile Searchers to Restaurants - eMarketer | Restaurant Marketing Ideas | Scoop.it

Mobile users seeking restaurant information seem to belong overwhelmingly to one group: hungry people looking for good food, right now.

Many commerce-related searches conducted on mobile devices are not so urgent—such as those made to check prices and comparison-shop. But for restaurant info, actionability is key on mobile.

June 2012 research from call tracking solutions provider Telmetrics and mobile-local ad network xAd found that looking up location was the No. 1 mobile restaurant search activity among smartphone and tablet users in the US, followed closely by looking up directions to that location.......

the location in which a restaurant is built can literally make or break the entire business. The right location is one where people are forced to look at the restaurant. the best location is one where people must drive past the establishment, getting people to turn their headsail no wonder whats going on in there

What's the Best Way to Label Food?: New Food Labeling Initiatives

What's the Best Way to Label Food?: New Food Labeling Initiatives | Restaurant Marketing Ideas | Scoop.it

For the last few decades, we’ve all become familiar with the “Nutrition Facts” box that appears on the back of packaged food. But when you’re walking around the grocery store, you don’t see many people stopping to look it over. Arguably, it hasn’t really kept up with the times. But, it’s important. Encouraging people to think about what’s inside the food they’re buying can have a significant effect on what they buy and eat. One recent study suggests that people who read a nutrition label are less likely to be obese. Correlation? Causation? A bit of both? It’s hard to say, but information has a role to play.....

Can’t Decide What to Order? Try This Restaurant’s Instagram Menu

Can’t Decide What to Order? Try This Restaurant’s Instagram Menu | Restaurant Marketing Ideas | Scoop.it

The long-standing argument against joining Twitter for a great deal of people used to be, and perhaps still is, something along the lines of "I don’t care what somebody is having for breakfast." Then along came Instagram, and suddenly the prospect of finding out what somebody had for breakfast became slightly more interesting. Now sharing pictures of meals has become so popular that one restaurant has created a second, more social menu where diners can find out what really looks good.......

Instagram is a social media website allowing users to post pictures relating to what they're currently up to. Millions of people use this on a daily basis and just can't get enough. Putting a restaurant on this site is a great innovative new idea. It puts the product in the consumers eye, giving the restaurant the ability to "gussy up" the picture however they'd like without the customer even knowing.

Menufy introduces restaurants to their future

Menufy introduces restaurants to their future | Restaurant Marketing Ideas | Scoop.it

In 1995, the idea that Sandra Bullock didn’t have to pick up a phone to get a large pizza with anchovies, garlic and extra cheese seemed revolutionary. Nearly two decades after The Net, Ashishh Desai and the team at Menufy are proving that Hollywood’s early vision of the Web was onto something: Ordering restaurant food online doesn’t have to be hard.
The KCK startup creates online menus, ordering systems and websites for restaurants. The 10-person business began as a conversation three years ago. Desai and Hoang Nguyen were sitting in the dining room of what would become Menufy’s first customer: Stix in the Legends. Nguyen, Stix’s general manager, had been tasked with developing and launching a website for the Asian-fusion restaurant.

“We started this thinking about Stix,” says Desai, who remained the restaurant’s senior manager until last year. “But we quickly realized we could think broader, and this template would work for other restaurants.”.....
