Facebook has been inundated with infectious clutter and is a hackers delight. Perhaps the old cob webs should be wiped away to satisfie the current support base before trodding off into an even more sofisticated ploy.

Andrew Federici's comment, June 18, 2013 3:24 PM
Agree there's a difference. RSS on Facebook feels like a portal-type move that may not catch on or be relevant to the mental model...
Andrea Norwood's comment, June 24, 2013 11:06 AM
I'd like to see it done, I have a fecebook page and it hasn't disappointed me yet. I hear a lot on how facebook happened and about the way that mark zuckerburg wasn't so fair in the deal with the suppose to be owners of facebook, but I say he's doing a good job and I'd like to see more interesting and new things happening for facebook!

Icarus Falling: Re-Imagining Educational Theory

Icarus Falling: Re-Imagining Educational Theory | Educational Books & Scholarly Articles | Scoop.it
This article offers a critique of the notion of ‘capacity building’ in educational theory. Are the intentions behind the latter enterprise as benign and altruistic as they first appear? How is the term ‘capacity building’ to be understood?

This is an interesting article. What does capacity building mean? We use terms as if they are neutral, but that is not the case. Who is served through capacity building?

A must read!! i will break your heart!!

Lon Woodbury's curator insight, October 21, 2015 3:14 PM

Insightful article.  Recipients of policy decisions by the powerful might like the resources offered (like welfare or program funding), but usually resent and someway or another resist the top-down decisions.  As said in the article: "But one of the limitations of the contemporary reform movement is the underlying — at times, subconscious — premise that poor children of color come from homes and communities full of nothing but dysfunction. And Russakoff, like many reformers, depicts impoverished children mostly as lost souls in need of saviors."  The best reforms are ones where the recipients have a say or provide direction as to what is needed. -Lon

10 online Research Tools every online learner should know about

10 online Research Tools every online learner should know about | Educational Books & Scholarly Articles | Scoop.it
Online learning has opened up the opportunity for many people to educate themselves, learn new skills, and earn college degrees even if they are not able to attend classes in a traditional sense of the word. Some just don’t have the time/money to move or commute to another city, or they work full time and have families, which means eLearning is their only option. As great as online learning is, it has several drawbacks. Obviously, it requires you to be online most of the time, which is fine, if you are doing research, writing, taking online tests, or attending your virtual classes.

But being online also makes you more prone to procrastination and distractions. There is also the issue of keeping all those gigabytes of research data organized and having hardware that’s powerful enough to enable real-time communication. These are just some of the issues eLearners face. Fortunately, there is something you can do to make your eLearning experience a lot more efficient and stimulating, especially the research part. We have prepared a list of 10 online research tools every online learner should master.
