CUT FEDERAL SPENDING ON CORRECTIONS (The Sentencing Project)

By rethinking its federal sentencing policies, lawmakers can cut federal spending by cutting corrections spending while maintaining public safety. The federal prison system now houses 210,000 people at a cost of $6 billion. Between 1982 and 2007, the cost of federal corrections increased 475%, even after adjusting for inflation.
