Critical Search Skills Students Should Know - Edudemic

Critical Search Skills Students Should Know - Edudemic | Resources and ideas for the 21st Century Classroom | Scoop.it
There is a new digital divide on the horizon. It is not based around who has devices and who does not, but instead the new digital divide will be based around students who know how to effectively find and curate information and those who do not.
Lucy Beaton's insight:

The TED Talk by Eli Pariser called 'Filter bubbles' is a MUST WATCH because it explains how our search results are filtered by algorithms based on our previous search history, often omitting oposing viewpoints.  Teach students to use Chrome's incognito search for unflitered/ unbiassed results.

Good question Thomas! I think it is an ongoing dance between learning good storytelling and then learning the tools for maximum impact.
Louise Robinson-Lay's curator insight, August 2, 2013 7:44 AM

recentlyrue recently I had to get students to use Powerpoint as the Internet connection was too slow to have them all work at once on other online presentation tools. After laying down some ground rules about effective use they amazed us with their creative responses. It is not the tool. It is how you use it. And how teachers plan for it!
