We live in colors. They fill our waking moments, they form a part of our every apprehension of the visible world, and they govern many of the choices we make about the ways we define or express ourselves. It’s rare, though, to see ourselves as constituted by the reds and greens in our lives, and we often pretend that such things involve nothing more than the paint on our walls or the inconsequential choice of a tie.
Managing tablets as learning tools in the classroom is not easy, especially when many kids use them largely as toys outside of school, if they have access to a tablet in their home environment. Here are some ideas on how to develop smart habits for class.
The entrance to GitHub is the most Instagram-able lobby in tech. It's a recreation of the Oval Office, and the mimicry is spot-on---except for the rug. Instead of the arrow-clutching American eagle that graces Obama's office rug, it shows the code-sharing site's Octocat mascot gazing into the digital future, just above the motto: "In Collaboration We Trust."

For two millennia, great artists set the standard for beauty. Now those standards are gone. Modern Art is a competition between the ugly and the twisted; the...
Artur Coelho's insight:
so, a bigoted hyperconservative man believes that his personal tastes should rule art apreciation. it's too bad, because the point is valid: there is a lot of modern and contemporary art that is plain bad and incomprehensible. what he does not say is that safely hidden in the reserves of most museums is a lot of perfectly painted or sculpted art that is plain bad. this narrow vision of an aesthetic perfection is, of course, joined by a conservative appeal to classic an non-threatening themes. yes, there are excesses in modern and contemporary art. these will soon be as forgotten as the sucessful contemporaries of ancient master of whom today only the most obscure scholars know about. there are themes that shock us, and it is very fortunate that it is so, because it makes us think about what we see, not just feel delight as our tastes are pampered with soft colours and cute themes. art evolves continuously, and one of the great things of the impressionist revolution (wich this man praises with such an obvious disgust) is that it opened the door for bolb visual and aesthethic exploration. stuff such as the art renewal centre are throwbacks for very narrow sets of ideas. still, one has to commend his courage to stand up to what he believes. unfortunately his very valid argument on the badness of a lot of contemporary art is lost on the obviously bigoted point of view he adopts.
Slate is an online magazine, which means you are almost certainly reading this on a screen. It is more likely to be morning than evening. You are perhaps at work, chasing a piece of information rather than seeking to immerse yourself in a contemplative experience. You probably have other tabs...
