One very important source left off--open search engine Duck Duck Go. Plus, there is no place to comment on this site other than to follow and comment elsewhere. That is a deal breaker for anyone who is into truly connected learning.

Please... No More PowerPoint Title Slides!

Please... No More PowerPoint Title Slides! | Research skills | Scoop.it

Christopher Gurrie: In 2008, a colleague and I set out to make it our mission to rid this world of bad PowerPoint presentations. Remember the consequences: every time you make a bad PowerPoint presentation -- God (all of them) kills a kitten.

Even if we can only influence one student at a time -- hopefully we are doing our part to make presentation land just a little bit better for our fellow audience members. After all, we're only on this Earth for a short while -- it shouldn't be spent sitting through boring presentations where the presenter reads to us from slides laden with too many words and not enough practice...

Jaime Parker's curator insight, July 10, 2013 2:22 PM

I have a friend who teaches English courses at the college level and this is her biggest complaint. She says that the students simply do not know how to research. They don't know how to use databases or how to evaluate websites which seems so crazy to me. I'm not sure why these skills aren't being taught or integrated into every content area. Perhaps too much time is being spent preparing students for standardized testing.
