Greg Longmuir's curator insight, July 16, 2013 9:55 AM

I guess you can never have enough curating, in this digital age anything that can keep you up to date and help visibility is worth a try. I like the way the simplify everything. I'm not sure but even with all this info I still may feel like I'm missing something and go to the individual sites anyway. But to see what the landscape looks like in a quick view Qwant is pretty cool.

Elizabeth Hutchinson's comment, May 15, 2013 11:40 PM
I don't think anyone minds students starting with Wikipedia but as with any encyclopedia it should only be your starting point. Where are your research skills if that is all you look at? Likewise it would not be good enough if you chose just one academic source, a variety is needed.
Jennifer Creese's curator insight, March 27, 6:40 PM

Interesting to have a viewpoint from a student (although if they're writing for The Guardian maybe not your average student so much!)

Free Technology for Teachers: Web Search Strategies in Plain English

Last fall I wrote 10 Search Tools and Tactics Teachers and Students Need to Know. The first thing on that list was to teach students to stop Googling "what" and "why" questions. In other words, teach students to use better search terms. A good resource that can help students understand web search strategies is Common Craft's Web Search Strategies in Plain English.
