Three educators received the Outstanding Global Engagement Award from the NCSU Office of International Affairs last week. CALS faculty Dr. Siddhartha Thakur, Asst. Prof. of swine health & reproduction, and Dr. Qiuyun “Jenny” Xiang, Prof. of plant biology, were honored for their efforts to promote international research, teaching, extension and economic development. The N.C. State University Department of Poultry Science will use a $10 million gift to recruit students and hire a professor.
The Department will look for someone with expertise in turkey physiology, immunology, and other poultry-related areas. Delete the scoop?

Much has changed in the 15 years since state officials first got serious about finding a cleaner way to treat the waste from North Carolina’s 9 million-plus hogs. But much hasn’t.
But Dr. Williams, who is closely involved in the regulatory process, states that a new waste treatment system "seems to meet nearly every criterion to be named an official 'Environmentally Superior Technology' under the 2000 [Smithfield, NC] agreement"; and while the method may need tests for ammonia removal capacity, the technique is promising.

North Carolina State University’s Poultry Science Department has been renamed for the Prestage Family. Chancellor Randy Woodson announced a $10 million gift that will name and endow the department in N.C. State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The Prestage Family Department of Poultry Science was renamed in honor of Bill and Marsha Prestage and their family, longtime supporters of N.C. State and owners of Prestage Farms, a poultry and pork production company headquartered in Clinton. Home to one of only six poultry science departments in the nation, N.C.
