Scholarship That Matters: Academic-Practitioner Engagement in Business and Management

This research explores academic-practitioner engagement by undertaking interviews with academics, practitioners, and other experts with relevant engagement experience. The findings highlight the problem of thinking narrowly about the different ways in which engagement takes place, as well as defining narrowly what is a worthwhile activity for management academics. The researchers develop a framework that encompasses the main ways in which engagement takes place, and that relates these to different attitude groups among both academics and practitioners. This could provide a starting point for business schools and individual academics to develop plans and put in place the processes for better engagement.

Leadership and Cooperation in Academia : Leadership and Cooperation in Academia Reflecting on the Roles and Responsibilities of University Faculty and Management

Leadership and Cooperation in Academia : Leadership and Cooperation in Academia Reflecting on the Roles and Responsibilities of University Faculty and Management | Research Capacity-Building in Africa | Scoop.it

Across the world academic institutions are being questioned by their stakeholders and pressured to change. Answering these questions requires that academics and professional managers in universities think about their work, its value and organisation. The book highlights the need for space and stimulus to reflect on the responsibilities, roles and expectations that they identify for themselves, and that others place upon them – then, they might be better able to understand and to act. Similarly, policymakers and higher education commentators need the space and stimulus to reflect on the role of universities. This book will provide this space and an invaluable contribution to the stimulus.
