Turnitin tool to help evaluate online resources (SEER) is here | Research Capacity-Building in Africa | Scoop.it

Turnitin worked with educators to develop The Source Educational Evaluation Rubric (SEER), an interactive rubric to analyze and grade the academic quality of Internet sources used by students in their writing.  Instructors and students who use SEER can quickly evaluate a website and arrive at a single score based on five criteria scaled to credibility: Authority, Educational Value, Intent, Originality, and Quality.

Developing ebooks for ELT - 10 questions to ask before you begin

Developing ebooks for ELT - 10 questions to ask before you begin | Research Capacity-Building in Africa | Scoop.it
Here’s my starter for 10. Each of these is a whole topic in itself, and I’ve raised more questions than answers, so let’s consider this just a starting point! I was going to title this post “Why ebooks are a minefield”, but thought that sounded unnecessarily negative when discussing an area so rich with possibilities and opportunities. Read on to see if you think I was right to change the title.

Fascinating and intriguing article by Christina Pratas on the developing trends in education.  Some of the trends to watch include:

Changing Demographics; For profit schools losing influence; Increased need for bandwidth to accommodate student digital devices; open education resources as opposed to expensive text books; test administration online rather than through written exams; and a push for more STEM courses (science, technology, engineering, and math) in grades K-12.  Radical changes are coming to the face of American education.  Aloha, Russ.
