really neat, clear and concise video tutorial on how to transfer pictures to wood. make sure to use a laser print copy of the picture, design or whatever you chose (like a copy machine) and just copy it onto regular copy paper. try using photos, quotes, patterns - the ideas are endless!! -amber

put to good use all those cassette tapes that have been gathering dust. you don't need to have a rectangular lamp like this tutorial does, some sort of base and a light that can fit into it will work just fine. another switch to consider is varying the size of the lamp, varying the thickness of the film on each side of the cassette, and possibly using mini cassettes. google image search 'cassette lamp' to get some good inspiration ideas!

i am usually a sucker for any project that uses wood - its one of my favorite materials. this project uses a block of it along with a belt sander, palm sander and drill press to create a piece with a small rounded dish and two other holes for vases. if the bud vase and salt aren't your thing, think of something else that you could use this for and make changes to the tutorial based accordingly on your own measurements.

with warm weather for biking season here and this post about how to make a basket for your ride, there's no excuse any more to not take up riding it everywhere. i personally like the look of the wooden shipping container idea but i have a wicker basket of my own that i use that works out pretty well.

this book is definitely an inspiring look through, with images of handmade homes that express a certain and unique architectural sense of sustainability, functionality, and possibly above all, creativity. if you decide to take this on as a read, keep in mind it is not a book with construction plans or details, but moreover pages filled with inspiration and wonderful ideas.

this woman did the designing and much of the remodeling of this old garage and turned it into her 'dream home.' some good renovation ideas are found within her walls and this article has some great pictures of the completed space.

this books has all the neat things any homesteader or anyone looking to be self-sufficient would want; it includes things like how to pluck a duck to the recipe for sourdough bread to preserving all sorts of fruits, with large sections that contain all sorts of stuff about how to use wood, wax, leather, paint, fabric, clay and much, much more. if you don't want to spring for buying your own copy (although i highly suggest it!) check the library.

fun project using basic craft stuff for stencils. the botanical route is a fun thing to help think spring as it approaches, but if flowers aren't your thing, no problem - get creative and cut out your own idea and, of course, enjoy.

a beautiful article containing numerous ways to use paint chips as decor and much more! i won't lie, i have taken many paint samples from different stores and have used them as spare craft paper for banners. they're free and the colors are all so wonderful. if you have kids or babysit, these little colorful samples can also be some good entertainment for them during craft time. next time you see some, grab a handful and check this page for inspiration! -amber

while this isn't a link to a diy or repurpose how-to, it does showcase a clever way to put together a rocking chair and cradle; great thinking of how to involve two pieces into one. even cooler, the description says that once the baby outgrows the cradle, the piece can be transformed into a complete, larger rocking chair. this aspect makes this purchase last even longer, and creates some inspirational questions for myself (and hopefully you too!) - what can i create that is innovative? what can i create that puts together what seems so simple to have not thought of already? -amber

i have had an obsession with all things pallett lately - attempts at making picture frames, furniture and birdhouses. if i didn't already have a bed frame with a headboard, i would be all over this idea.

requires very little supplies and very little time; as with any project, personalize to what you want with your own image and color. if you aren't in need of a tote, try this on a t-shirt, table runner or tablecloth, pillowcase, etc.

there's so much out there on the internet for diy, repurposing, and how-to's, but these 10 sites really stack up on top. i've come across many, many projects that have come from these sites. instructables is especially awesome, with user generated content in a variety of fields, from technology to the outdoors. i encourage everyone to take a look into these places! especially if you have your own project in mind but aren't sure how to do it, chances are you will find it in one of these spots.

this is a great idea if you're in need of a headboard - an old door, a few tools and some TLC should do the trick.
secondly with this article is an idea for a picnic basket from an old suitcase. this tutorial does a great job going through the steps. remember, you don't need to spend money on all the little stuff inside; i made a picnic basket a while back with old silverware and dishes we rarely used at home that were kept in place with a strong elastic. places like goodwill (or your attic) are full of old suitcases too, for a cheap price!

i absolutely LOVE these letters. they are an easy project to help add a little extra to any room. if cardboard letters aren't available to you, be adventurous and try to cut out and piece together your own. or, if you have the tools, you can try to make your own from some stencils (or freehand!) and some scrap wood. you can also customize the words for where to you choose to put them; EAT in the kitchen, BATH in the bathroom, and maybe something like HAPPY or LIVE SIMPLE to put above your fireplace or for the living area. whatever you choose, get creative! and as always, enjoy!

a neat idea coming from england, where two landlords are testing a system that pays tenants to do their own routine repairs. a pretty sweet trade for the renters, who can benefit from a little extra cash and the landlord being able to focus on large repairs and mishaps rather than the small obstacles that could easily be tackled and fixed. might not be such a bad idea!
