In this model, we appreciate the inclusion of self-knowledge, as well as moving past the idea of content to true disciplinary knowledge–seeing knowledge in context and application."

This post shares another visual that provides one model of learning in the 21st century. Specifically, it prioritizes six ideas:

* Disciplinary Knowledge - "Build and apply content knowledge to think deeply and act as a practitioner of the discipline"

* Self-Knowledge - "Experiment and create, while embracing failure as an opportunity for growth in order to design new ideas and solutions."

* Innovation Creation - "Recognize one’s emotional, physical, and learning needs, strengths, and challenges to nurture personal growth and resilience"

* Collaboration - "Share knowledge and resources, building on a diversity of ideas and experiences to achieve group goals and interdependence"

* Responsibility - "Understand one’s impact and influence in a local and global community; cultivate compassion, and take positive action"

* Communication - "Express ideas effectively through varied means of presentation; understand one’s audiences, actively listen; and build connection"

Additional information on each of these six ideas is included in the post.

The opening keynote by Larry Irving started out a bit dull for me. He took us along all the impressive numbers of the growth of the web and mobile. What I liked most is his conviction that everybody has a right on education and that Mobile learning will make this possible. He gave examples on changes and developments in education. What I liked most was his end: Education does not need innovation, it needs disruption. I tried to capture his talk in the mind map.

"As part of a graduate course in Social Network Learning, I ask students to create a non-linguistical representation. Here is the description of this assignment:

The intent of this module is to assist you in developing a personalized and deep understanding of the concepts of this unit – the concepts that are core to using social networking as a learning venue. Communities of Practice, Connectivism, Personal Learning Networks, create one or a combination of the following to demonstrate your understanding of these concepts: a slide show or Glog of images, an audio cast of sounds, a video of sights, a series of hand drawn and scanned pictures, a mindmap of images, a mathematical formula, a periodic chart of concepts, or another form of nonlinguistic symbols. Your product should contain the major elements discussed in this module: CoPs, Connectivism, and Personal Learning Networks. These are connected yet different concepts. As such they should be portrayed as separate, yet connected elements. In other words, you should use at least one symbol per concept and somehow show how they are related and connected."

Una gran cantidad de profesionales de eLearning, especialmente aquellos que acaban de comenzar con su práctica, a menudo se preguntan acerca de la necesidad de la teoría. ¿Por qué molestarse aprendiendo la teoría del diseño instruccional en absoluto? ¿No es suficiente con la práctica?

 

La práctica y la teoría en realidad van de la mano. Esto aplica no sólo en el diseño instruccional, sino en cualquier otro campo o disciplina. La teoría, lejos de paralizar la práctica, en realidad ayuda a mejorar la calidad del material de sus cursos eLearning.
