Después de meses sin escribir en el blog, vuelvo con una serie de entradas, la mayoría relacionadas con el CMC2014, que se celebró en Santos, Brasil, entre los días 23 y 27 de septiembre de 2014, y al cual asistir Isabel Ferrer Arabí y yo.
Fue un placer asistir al congreso y reencontrarnos con muchos amigos, con los que compartimos nuestro interés por los mapas conceptuales. Como ya sucedió en Malta, en 2012, hemos vuelto cargados de ideas.

Hace unos días, leyendo el libro de Selwyn y Facer (2013), que recomiendo vivamente a toda persona que se dedique a la tecnología educativa o que la utilice en su práctica docente (no tengo comisión), encontré una cita que no me resisto a copiar aquí. Es de un artículo de Amin y Trift de 2005 y explica qué es, según Selwyn y Facer,  “adoptar un punto de vista políticamente consciente” de la tecnología educativa

"Reading Rockets shares that "A concept map is a visual organizer that can enrich students' understanding of a new concept. Using a graphic organizer, students think about the concept in several ways. Most concept map organizers engage students in answering questions such as, "What is it? What is it like? What are some examples?" Concept maps deepen understanding and comprehension." Cast reports: "There is solid evidence for the effectiveness of graphic organizers in facilitating learning." A summary of this finding is that, "When looking across 23 different studies they found a consistent effect on comprehension."

"How do you think the world (starting with our perceptions) could change if the map looked differently? What if Australia was on top and the hemispheres switched? By changing how we look at a map we truly can begin to explore and change our assumptions about the world we live in."

 

Geography doesn’t just teach us about the Earth; it provides ways for thinking about the Earth that shapes how we see the world.  Maps do the same; they represent a version of reality and that influences how we think about places.

Research tells us that visuals are an important element of learning, and that when visuals are used in classrooms, yet many classrooms are based on text. This post looks at three areas:

* Bringing Active Learning Back to the Classroom - How much of the time are the learners in your class actively participating as compared to passively listening?

* Embracing Visual - Visuals help many learners understand complex subjects. Experts in many fields can look at images and quickly learn complex information. Are you teaching your learners visual skills?

* Retrieving Practice - "By combining visual training with active learning, students can go from novice to expert in far less time than with traditional study methods."

As many of us prepare to return to school embracing visuals and teaching our students how to interpret visuals has the potential to promote better understanding. This post provides some great pointers and you will find a link to the original research.

Ievgueni Morozov passa per ser un dels crítics actuals més incisius amb l'excessiva presència de les TIC en tots els àmbits de la societat actual. En el seu llibre “El desengaño de Internet” (Destino) articula una ben argumentada crítica que resumia en una recent entrevista periodística en la qual afirmava: “Podem pensar que és tecnologia, però jo crec que és neoliberalisme. I dir-ne d'una altra manera em sembla molt ingenu”. De ben segur que la massiva presència de les tecnologies de la informació i de la comunicació, especialment d'Internet, presenta noves problemàtiques d'organització social, però aquestes opinions tan radicals són sens dubte exagerades però, si més no, són útils per interrogar-nos sobre la realitat polièdrica d'una societat amb una irresistible presencia de les TIC.
