It's about using remote sensing for monitoring broadscale vegetation condition under drought and high rainfall. An ok intro that's not too long with some Ok pics.

We monitor Queensland's forests and woodlands to assess vegetation extent and land clearing activity.
Ann Grattidge's insight:

This site is actualy worth a look.

 

It's a brief introduction to SLATS - state wide vegetation mapping carried out across the entire state of Queensland.  The vegetation classification is to faciliate land use planning but also tracking land clearing. There isn't a huge amount of info but it's short and sweet. They use Landsat imagery so the scale can't be that fine but still it's better than what we have for the NT by miles.

 

I see that NSW is following a similar proceedure using SPOT imagery.
