John Hanke went from running small tech startups to managing products for Google's sprawling Geo division, which includes Google Earth, Maps, Street View and other services.
You learn in his bio that he worked for the US State Dpt Foreign Service in Burma and founded a start-up funded in part by the CIA (Keyhole Inc that created the premise of Google Earth)
And cherry on the cake, he was also the co-founder of Big Network and Archetype Interactive with Steve & Michael Sellers.
With Big Network (later bought by 3DO) they created Meridian 59 - a game that is said to be the first 3D MMO.
Mike Sellers then worked on games such as the Sims 2 and more recently Sims Online... one could easily imagine how a game like that could "plug" on a real Google Map :)
