Writing: "About Me" | Blogs | Archinect | Reinvention Summit 2 | Scoop.it
With all the websites, blogs and social media profiles, you always need a short bio; may be more so than a resume. As an intern that doesn't have much experience or things to brag about, I have struggled a lot of times writing my own bio.

I finally came across this very helpful article: The Reume is Dead, The Bio is King by [RS2 founder] Michael Margolis.

Wrap Your Message in Bacon: Discover How In August Webinar : Stories That Change

Wrap Your Message in Bacon: Discover How In August Webinar : Stories That Change | Reinvention Summit 2 | Scoop.it

From RS2 attendee David Lee:

If you know anything about dogs and medicine, you know that one way to make unpleasant tasting medicine more palatable to your dog is to wrap it in bacon.

Storytelling allows you to do the same with people.

Stories allow you to communicate a message that, if delivered “straight”, would trigger defensiveness or resistance (e.g. “Oh…there’s no way I could do that”).

When you tell stories about yourself or other people, you are not directly confronting a person’s beliefs, perspectives, or behaviors. You’re talking about the people in the story.

The deadly sins of brand storytelling

The deadly sins of brand storytelling | Reinvention Summit 2 | Scoop.it

From RS2 presenter Jonah Sachs:

Stories are like verbal DNA. They are the tiny packets of information upon which teams, enterprises, and societies have always been built. And they’re important for everyone from big companies, to small business, to startups. Why? Because stories are the most powerful tools human beings have ever developed for expressing their values and getting others to share and act upon them.

Storytelling’s a Big Hit at The Olympics

Storytelling’s a Big Hit at The Olympics | Reinvention Summit 2 | Scoop.it

From RS2 founder Michael Margolis:

Have you been watching the 2012 Summer Olympics?

It’s one of those rare moments when we drop our differences and come together as a species.

Beyond the daredevil athleticism, have you seen the amazing commercials?

Move aside Mr. Superbowl, this is some of the best advertising storytelling in ages. Why? Because many of these ads choose to tell a bigger story instead of just selling product. Everyone from Visa, Lego, Adidas, and Cadillac are embracing the spirit.

For an inspired example, check out Nike’s ad campaign, Find Your Greatness. If you haven’t seen these yet, they’re a must watch. The first in the series has been viewed 4,000,000+ times on YouTube. This second is a dramatic example of the minimalistic story.

The business of reinvention

The business of reinvention | Reinvention Summit 2 | Scoop.it

RS2 founder Micahel Margolis notes that he's never shared this much of his reinvention story before:

From 2001 to 2007, I worked as a message architect and storytelling consultant. This was my brainchild and labor of love. I worked with big brands on high-stakes innovation initiatives. A few years in, the business was growing.

When I added my wife to the company as a business partner, I envisioned we’d become a dynamic duo—living together, working side by side, and traveling the world. One day, perhaps, it would evolve into a family business, with our future kids sharing in the legacy.

Culture Hacking: The Future of Organizational Storytelling

Culture Hacking: The Future of Organizational Storytelling | Reinvention Summit 2 | Scoop.it

A couple of months ago nearly 600 members of the Get Storied tribe gathered online for Reinvention Summit 2: Storytelling’s Biggest Online Conference. This included 20 sessions from the world’s leading storytelling experts.

Alas, one of our sessions experienced technical difficulties. So my good friends Robert Richman (formerly) of Zappos Insights and Dan Mezick of New Technology USA graciously returned recently to chat about the process of culture change and innovation. It was such a provocative interview, we decided share it with everyone in the Get Storied tribe. Enjoy, and please feel free to share with others.

RS2 founder Michael Margolis quoted here:

Michael Margolis, founder of Get Storied, talks about the need for a “new about me”. As Michael says, “Your story is your brand. You have to get others to believe and identify with your story. When you can do that — the need to persuade, convince, or sell disappears.”

3 Golden Rules Of Successful Storytelling In The Social Era - Forbes

3 Golden Rules Of Successful Storytelling In The Social Era - Forbes | Reinvention Summit 2 | Scoop.it

[RS2 presenter] Jonah Sachs begins his recently-released book “Story Wars” with a remarkably astute observation: “Ideas today are never fixed: they’re owned and modified by everyone. They move through networks at the will of their members and without that activity, they die.”

This is to say you can’t force-feed a message at your audience anymore. Your audience is in control of whether and how a message succeeds or falls flat.
