Cocaine found in Florida man's prosthetic leg during traffic stop | Rehabilization | Scoop.it

Port Charlotte, Florida (News-Press) -- A Charlotte County Sheriff's deputy made at traffic stop Tuesday night on a car for not having brake lights that resulted in the arrest of four on drug charges.

Arrested were Bradley Jordon Greus, 23, of Port Charlotte; Donald Carlo Acquarelli, 25, of Port Charlotte; Teal Lee Thomson, 22, of Rotonda West; and Alexis Ann Clancey, 20, of Englewood.

The traffic stop was made at Bradford Avenue and Cazonovia Street; the driver was Clancey, the CCSO said.

When deputies began the search of Greus they asked if he had anything hidden in his prosthetic leg.

Greus said he had a small bag of cocaine in it and handed it to a deputy. A search of Thomson found a plastic baggie located in her bra that contained morphine and hydromorphine pills. Clancey said she had a hydromorphine pill in her wallet left on the driver's seat. While searching Acquarelli, Clancey jumped in the tan Hyundai, grabbed her wallet, quickly pulled out a pill and swallowed it. Deputies attempted to stop her from swallowing but were unsuccessful...

Healthy Body and a Sound Mind?

Healthy Body and a Sound Mind? | Rehabilization | Scoop.it

From the point of view of education, the effects reported here make an compelling case, since they go to the heart of learning and achievement in school. The improvements to mood and concentration enhance what could be called the mindset of learning, because fitter children tend to approach academic tasks with a more positive attitude and greater attention than their unfit peers. At the same time, the changes to the efficient functioning of the brain relate to the mechanisms of learning. In other words, the evidence from these tests suggest that physical activity can improve students' mental state while learning, and the efficiency with which they learn.

If a pharmaceutical drug was available that had been demonstrated to have such positive effects on children’s performance at school, I suspect that even the most cautious of parents would be lining the streets outside pharmacies. Physical activity is not a wonder drug, it has no harmful side effects, and it is free!

Get Started with Treatment Program for Alcohol Addiction!

Get Started with Treatment Program for Alcohol Addiction! | Rehabilization | Scoop.it
Alcohol treatment programs take distinctive philosophical methodologies and have diverse administrations accessible in their magic chest. There is no one for all strategy or approach to overcoming alcohol abuse or dependency. Discovering the 30-day inpatient treatment program that will be best for a specific individual is a matter of making inquiries and realizing what specific treatment offices can offer. In addition, other 12 steps program and many other in-patient and out- patient facilities and programs are available. However, above all, what matters is to start the program. Moreover, to start the program there is many things to consider before choosing the facility. The points to keep in mind are-Examine your choices with your specialist, advisor, and ask him or her to prescribe a couple of proper nearby inpatient or outpatient facilities that are best suited.Figure out if you require a specific program that can likewise treat drug addictions or psychiatric or physical sickness alongside your drinking issue or stick to alcohol addiction treatment.Check with your neighborhood clinic to look into inpatient programs as they would help or go to the facilities that offer extensive and extraordinary consideration.Call at different alcohol rehabilitation centers to check in if they are accepting clients.  In the event that they are, ask how to enroll the program. On the off chance that they are full, do not surrender. Request that they propose an alternate facility.Figure out from your HMO or private protection supplier what sort of insurance will you need to undergo such program. In any case, if the insurance is not capable of paying for the program, the option of public treatment center is always open.Look in the telephone directory under "Liquor abuse" to check whether there are another neighborhood programs you need to investigate.Visit the Web webpage of the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence to discover connections to neighborhood inpatient programs on the web.Ask a trusted relative or companion to help you choose the program that best helps on the off chance that you cannot settle on your own.Enlist yourself in the project of your decision. You do not need a specialist's referral to sign up.Keep in mind that inpatient treatment is a decent beginning, however after the treatment; you will need continuous backing from some sort of outpatient gathering or facility. The above-mentioned points are here to get you started and help you get back on track. However, the first and foremost thing to consider and to do is to accept that you are an addict. Many a times addicts are skeptical towards their addiction and neglect it by saying it is just for fun. However, alcohol consumption for fun and then being an alcohol dependent are very close thing. If you need alcohol every day and night or  if you indulge into binge drinking or you can’t get things straight without alcohol in your system, then this  are the signs that tells you that you are an addict. My point, being that there is no shame to admit that you are an addict. Talk to your friend your closed family members and ask for advice and opinions. Once, you admit it, then visit your doctor and they help you determine the level of addition you have and suggests the facility accordingly. So, for any of you family member, if you see any such signs then convince them to get started with the program or if you know you are an addict, it is about time to take action.Help is just around the corner.AuthorshipI have been associated with many drug abuse facilities and alcohol rehabilitation centers for many years now. Once thing I can say for sure is that all addiction is treatable, if you decide to stop against it. If you start, you are already half way there.

Will Smith's Brother-In-Law Arrested On Federal Drug Charges in Miami Cocaine Deal

Will Smith's Brother-In-Law Arrested On Federal Drug Charges in Miami Cocaine Deal | Rehabilization | Scoop.it

Star magazine first reported that Will Smith's brother-in-law Dee Lawrence Downs, who is married to the actor's younger sister Ellen, has been arrested on federal drug charges.

According to court documents obtained by The Huffington Post, Downs was arrested on Jan. 17 and charged with attempted possession with intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine. In the criminal complaint, Gregory Gillespie a task force officer for the Drug Enforcement Administration, claims that Downs made arrangements to travel from Philadelphia to Miami for the purpose of buying cocaine from a major drug supplier.

Downs was the target of a sting operation, where unbeknownst to him he was dealing with confidential sources working with the DEA. Upon arrival in Miami, Downs was driven to a restaurant where he met with the two confidential sources, and allegedly said he was looking for someone he could trust to move "product" every month, and claimed he had contacts in South Philadelphia who were able to move the "product" quickly and in large amounts.

According to the court documents, after traveling to another location, Downs began to negotiate the purchase of several kilograms of cocaine -- with the parties agreeing on a price of $26,500 per kilogram with a transportation fee of $1,500 per kilogram delivered to Philadelphia.

After returning to Philadelphia, Downs wired $7,500 to the confidential source, which is the amount he negotiated to have 5 kilograms of the drug delivered.

On Jan. 17 Downs was arrested after negotiating a deal to buy 2 kilograms of cocaine from an undercover officer, whom he presented a black bag that contained large, undetermined amounts of cash...

Ketamine May be Useful Treatment for Chronic PTSD

Ketamine May be Useful Treatment for Chronic PTSD | Rehabilization | Scoop.it
It might come as a wired news or shock to many people, but Ketamine can be used to treat people with PTSD i.e. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A recent report published by BBC mentioned ketamine as exciting and dramatic, treatment for depression. We are already aware that ketamine is safe as it is used as an anesthetic for nearly 4 decades now. It has no effect on the regular heart function also it does not affect breathing at any level.

One of the prime feature of ketamine is that it is very fast acting drug, so it does not stay in the system for too long. Usually the effect of ketamine wears out in a 3 hour period. So, for treatment of depression can be questioned as the effect wears off. But the study indicated that the effect of an injection usually lasts for 3 to 4 days. Still ketamine is a drug that can cause dependence over time and substance abuse treatment facilities are recommended in extreme conditions. Too much dependence on the drug causes abnormalities in the bilateral frontal and left temporal parts of the brain. So, the big question arises is what effects ketamine will have if used in long-term. The initial studies were carried by researchers from Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Oxford and it was funded by the National Institute for Health Research. The result is still not conclusive, due to many variables associated. The first variable is that, the study was carried on people with severe depression and who didn't respond well to any other treatment. The researchers at Oxford, issued the following statement, about the treatment and how did it happen, “Patients suffering from bipolar disorder and patients who are immune towards other medication were recruited in the study, the total tally was 28. The patients were also from different facilities or who have been recommended psychiatric facilities and we had some volunteers too who self-referred through advertisements. A special criteria and other tets were undertaken before recruiting any patient or volunteer. Once the diagnosis was confirmed, they were processed for further inspection. When the patient or volunteer failed to treatment of two separate trials for anti depressant, it is referred as treatment resistance. Out of 28, one group with 15 patients were infused for one infusion per week while the other 13 had two infusions per week, with the time period of infusion was 40 minutes and dosage was 0.5MG for each KG of body weight.”What were the results?Out of 29, 8 people (29%) responded to the treatment. Out of 8 only 3 has responded within 6 hours of the infusion. All other responded at 3rd infusion. The response varied from a month to six months. Side effects included nausea, anxiety, impaired vision, confusion. Final Verdict?Due to in-conclusive results ketamine is not recommended for treatment in drug rehabilitation centers, but the studies are still going on. However, it appears to change the way the brain processes the information, but the biggest question that arises is, how long does the effect of each doze last? And what are the chances of creating a dependency for ketamine?. Official statement of Oxford health stated, “Due to in-conclusive results, nothing is sure shot right now, but ketamine is not licensed currently for treatment of any form of depression or nothing can be said about future as well. Even if the use is sanctioned, then it would be limited to a small number of specific patients, under strick facilities and who have not responded positively to other treatments. But ketamine would never be used in large scale as any other antidepressant medication are. .”So for now, stay from ketamine in any form and for any treatment.AuthorshipJennifer is an active member in studies carried for treatment of depression using various methods and she is associated with many drug rehabilitation centers across the country.

Exercise is a key element in assisting people with elevated anxiety levels generally, but when we grieve, our normal defenses can cause a spike in our anxiety. I suggest exercise to assist in regulating  the emotional overload  that may occur during such times. It  can and does help if we follow through with a regular exercise schedule.  It doesn't much matter what form that exercise takes, so long as we do it regularly.
