How to Get a PhD

How to Get a PhD | Reflection Log 1 | Scoop.it
A PhD, short for doctor of philosophy, is the top academic degree. It represents a mastering of one's field of study and entitles the person who earns it to be addressed with the honorific "Doctor." Earning a PhD requires a considerable...

My Thoughts:

This was a great article describing how to get a PhD and what it takes to do so. I know that to be successful in the psychology field, I will need a PhD. It is a very daunting task, and I know that I'm going to really have to think about it. Early in this article it talks about the difference between people who really want the PhD and people who just want the status. I am not going for the status at all, but it is definitely food for thought. Do I really want a PhD? Is psychology the right field for me? These are questions I will answer in the coming years. This article is a great resource for people who want to better understand the mechanics of getting a PhD.

How to Become a Psychologist

How to Become a Psychologist | Reflection Log 1 | Scoop.it

Have you ever wanted to become a psychologist? This can be an exciting career choice with a wide variety of specialty areas and opportunities, but many students have questions about exactly what they need to do to become a psychologist.

My Thoughts:
I found this while looking up how to become a psychologist. It has a lot of good information about all that it takes to become a psychologist. Also, parts of the article are links that go into more articles that expand on certain topics. I can continue to use this to expand on my knowledge. Some information in the article wasn't exactly necessary for me, like what to take in high school (it's a little too late to change what classes I'm taking), but some was good to know. In exploring this and other articles, I was able to learn more about graduate school (http://psychology.about.com/od/education/a/first-year.htm). It's something that will be difficult, but of course it will be worth it. I also know now what a Psy.D. degree is compared to a Ph.D.

BYU Psychology

My Thoughts: This is the main page about the Psychology Department at BYU, one of the colleges I applied to and the one that I probably will go to (if accepted). This was a great resource to look at many details about the psychology program at BYU. I found a place to watch a bunch of videos of interviews with BYU psychology professors discussing various topics. Another link from this page is the syllabi of the psychology classes at BYU. I looked at a few of them and began to get very excited for college! It looks like there is so much to learn and it makes me want to go there. In my research about what is needed for a major in psychology at BYU, I found out that there are SO many classes that will need to be taken, but even though it will be a lot of work, it will be worth it in the end.
