Catalan News Agency - “Plebiscite” election in 2016 if Spain refuses to allow a referendum in Catalonia

Catalan News Agency - “Plebiscite” election in 2016 if Spain refuses to allow a referendum in Catalonia | Referendum 2014 | Scoop.it
The Catalan President, Artur Mas, argued on Thursday that “plebiscite-style” elections should be held in 2016 – when the current term finishes – if the Spanish government does not allow the independence referendum to take place next year. In an interview with Catalan radio, Mas said he aims to finish the term and would prefer not to have to call early elections. Mas is waiting for an answer from the Spanish government about the possibility of organising a referendum next year.

Cameron must reverse policy on Westminster farming cash grab | Yes Scotland

Farming for Yes have called on the Prime Minister, David Cameron, to use his expected visit to Moffat Show to reverse his policy on Common Agricultural Policy funding and immediately return all of the €223 million “convergence” funding which was due to Scottish farmers, but most of which his Government instead diverted away from Scottish farming.

Scottish independence: Cameron makes business plea

Scottish independence: Cameron makes business plea | Referendum 2014 | Scoop.it
DAVID Cameron urged voters to choose the “openness” of remaining in the UK over the “narrowness” of independence when he addressed Scottish business leaders last night.
Peter A Bell's insight:

If the Union is the entirely wondrous thing that Cameron claims, then why are we having this referendum? If it was all he makes it out to be there would never have been an independence movement in Scotland.

If the Union is so great why are the British parties all acknowledging that it needs endless constitutional tinkering to stop it disintegrating completely?

And if the Union is so self-evidently the best thing in all of creation, why do those who are trying to preserve it feel obliged to resort to lies, threats and scaremongering?

Cameron is a pompous, patronising oaf who comes north to arrogantly dismiss the aspirations of Scotland's people - up to 75% of whom disagree with his notion of the Union as a perfect arrangement.

Given his attitude, how can anybody possibly trust him to deliver "more powers"?

Jim Murphy suspends referendum tour after egging

Jim Murphy suspends referendum tour after egging | Referendum 2014 | Scoop.it
LABOUR front-bencher Jim Murphy has suspended his Scotland-wide referendum tour, claiming Yes Scotland wasorchestrating a campaign of intimidation by sending mobs of protesters to disrupt it.
Peter A Bell's insight:

While throwing eggs at politicians is almost an established feature of politics in the UK such behaviour cannot be condoned. We might ask, however, whether throwing unfounded allegations is any more acceptable than chucking the odd egg. If the egg-thrower is guilty of offensive behaviour then Jim Murphy is certainly guilty of grossly irresponsible conduct when he claims, without any evidence whatever, that Yes Scotland is coordinating "attacks".

It is an idiotic suggestion, of course. The entire Yes campaign is embarrassed by the bad behaviour of individuals claiming to be part of that campaign. Independence supporters have nothing to gain by egging rabble-rousing loud-mouths like Murphy. The No campaign, on the other hand, has much to gain from such incidents.

Let's face it! Murphy got exactly what he wanted. He got an excuse to call off a prolonged stunt that was proving to be a series of humiliations for him. And he got the chance to have his cronies in the British media portray him as the innocent victim of a supposed campaign of intimidation.

It could hardly have worked out better if he'd planned the whole egg-throwing incident himself. Which he would never do, of course. Perish the thought.

INSIDE TRACK: Labour now realise a major shake-up is required

BEYOND the obvious theatre of Monday night's Salmond versus Darling debate there has been one tangible outcome - Labour types are talking again.
Peter A Bell's insight:

This piece nicely illustrates the fact that the sole obsession of British Labour in Scotland is restoring the party's status, with no regard whatever for restoring its reputation. A reputation which was destroyed, in no small part, by the very people who are now being touted as the party's saviours.

A Yes vote is the only "major shake-up" that offers any hope of rehabilitating Labour in Scotland.

Scots may resign from Cabinet to join in negotiations in the event of a Yes vote

A RAFT of key ministers could leave David Cameron's government following a Yes vote - to campaign for the best deal for an independent Scotland.
Peter A Bell's insight:

Alex Salmond will face massive opposition from the Scottish public if he tries to include the Secretary of State for Portsmouth in "Team Scotland" - or any of those who have made it clear over the course of the referendum campaign that their allegiance is, not to the people of Scotland, but to their own careers, their parties and the British state.

How can we possibly possibly trust the likes of Danny Alexander when he has shown himself ready to lie in order to serve the ruling elites of the British state by deceiving the people of Scotland? It may suit him that we airbrush from history the lies he told about the cost of setting up new government infrastructure, but I for one do not forget such dishonesty so readily.
