First Minister comments on N-56 report | Scottish National Party

First Minister comments on N-56 report | Scottish National Party | Referendum 2014 | Scoop.it

Commenting on the publication of a report by N-56, an apolitical economic think tank, which says oil and gas revenues more than 6 times that estimated put Scotland’s finances in the black and provide opportunity to establish oil fund, First Minister Alex Salmond said:

“This substantial new report from a leading business organisation blows another huge hole in the credibility of the Office of Budget Responsibility’s oil forecasts, especially as it comes just days after esteemed Scottish economist, Professor Sir Donald Mackay, said the OBR’s calculations were “precisely wrong” and “hopelessly at sea”. The report also endorses the Scottish Government’s plans to set up an energy fund – something Westminster have consistently failed to do to the great detriment of current and future generations."

Salmond launches attack on oil and gas 'thieves'

Salmond launches attack on oil and gas 'thieves' | Referendum 2014 | Scoop.it
ALEX Salmond has upped the referendum rhetoric by branding Westminster politicians "thieves" for allegedly squandering the nation's oil and gas reserves over many years as the North Sea became the latest independence battleground between London and Edinburgh.
Peter A Bell's insight:

What is this nonsense about successive UK governments "allegedly" squandering Scotland's oil and gas reserves? In what possible way can there be any doubt about the British state's culpability?
